  • Ultralight or Gyro crash Mackay Qld???

Hi all, does anyone know any more on this crash in yesterday"s Daily Murcury."TWO men were rushed to hospital last night after their ultra-light aircraft crashed near Marian. What was meant to be an evening joy flight with a mate ended in misfortune when the motorised hang glider crashed after coming into contact with high voltage overhead powerlines. The male pilot and his male passenger were both taken to Mackay Base Hospital with suspected spinal injuries after bringing down the 11,000 volt powerlines with the gyroplane on Marian-Eton Rd at 6.30pm. The crash, which occurred 4.9kms from Marian, caused power outages to 128 Ergon Energy customers. Senior Sergent Dave Parnell said police were still investigating the cause of the crash and working with Ergon Energy repair the lines. Ergon Energy corporate communications manager Bob Pleash said the built-in protection of the lines isolated the power to a section of the lines. "This affects 128 customers in the North Eton, Allandale and southern side of Marian area." Mr Pleash said Ergon Energy crews were working with agencies and other authorities to restore power to the areas but said it was unknown when the power would be restored. When the Daily Mercury went to print one man was in a serious condition and unconscious and the other man was in a stable condition at Mackay Base Hospital"Cheers Elwynne

I think you are right Trent, didn"t see a picture yesterday. The dreaded power lines strike again. Statistics show that 60 percent of pilots involved in wire strikes were aware of the wires in their area before the strike. ???
