Old mate that I have known for at least 4 years, flown with in his plane for countless hours and has been around the dramas associated with my gyro has just informed me today that his father and colleagues when in the Army (I think)

Yup was done as they said. It was called a "hafner rotabuggy" ....Once the jeep landed, the tail and rotors could be chucked and drive it as a jeep. They were going to do it with a tank as well, but they found that gliders could do the job better/cheaper with less issues so they stopped working on the idea http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hafner_.../rotabuggy.php
