  • M24 Accident report 28 April 2011 (UK)

Members,It is never a good time to discuss fatal accidents and possible causes, but we have to face these things. Please find attached, two pdf files, of the accident report received from the UK authorities.Magni is working hard to restore the confidence in their machines, and is prepared to answer any further questions. During the last session, when the fatal accident became public, a few pilots wanted to know what will happen if the door fly open. The South African team tested this at a safe altitude (pilot Len Klopper) and found that the M24 perform no different than with the doors closed, flying the M24 in a normal way (straight and level). The doors simply drift up and down on the hinge pins. This does not change the fact that it could have been the catalyst, and triggering pilots to take alternate and evasive action, causing something else to go wrong. The basic rule still remain; Aviate, Navigate and Communicate! This could be a challenge, with a pilot and or passenger in panic mode. The same sort of accident happen in South Africa as you can recall, with the difference being, the pilot flew into a telephone wire attempting to land. This is a reminder that things can go wrong with dire consequences, and that’s why we as ASRA members and pilots need to share these negative events as well as the good ones.I hope this will create a POSITIVE debate and we can move forward on this one. Please note how the route went directly over a residential area prior to the crash, I wonder what he was thinking?Regards,Colin MulliganMackay
