Yea thats rite, coming into a disused, remote,ex WW2 airstrip, joined circuit downwind leg, looking all abowt, turned on base leg, again looking all abowt, turned on finals and descending to a touchdown we are a goin.We are now above the strip, bowt 50ft. Then all of a sudden we hear the almighty boof boof boof, rite above us and to our right hand side abowt 100ft away, is a bloody great huge chopper tryin it's best to land on top of us[V]. Anyway fancy flyin takes over on my part, and all ends well. We land, he lands, we both get together and talk about the event. Guess what....he was doin autorotation emergency landing practices, from about 2000ft directly above the strip, and as I said the machine was huge, no vision directly under him, just his floor.HE WAS BLIND SPOTTED, and that's where we were, in that blind spot area.[^] I now look rite up above etc, hope others will do the same, you never know. One hell of a fright to both of us that day,You never stop lerninRDC

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago, one of the gyro boys did an engine out practice approach from directly over the strip while I was doing what was then the required long final as per the rediculous fixed wing circuit.IMEEHO the other guy should have been doing his autorotating final in a more predictable manner. But you are right Russel, look every which way, we have to fly as though we are invisible at all times.John EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.
