  • Dogs and props don't mix

Taxiing from station shed to airstrip, 2 onboard, next thing huge thump, gyro lifts one side completely off ground, everything shakes like hell, all this and more in the blink of an eye. Unbeknowns to us was a station dog chasing us from behind, and yes you know the rest.....where it came from, no one knew, but it did.Rooted prop, damaged tail feathers, suspect gearbox internal probs.dead dog. Just thought I'd pass it on.......Russ[]RDC

Yeh, dogs may be man's best friend, but sometimes they fail a little on the inteligense side o things. Our brain dead mut chases the rotors round n round the machine after I'v landed.Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were.Ingratitude stinks.......be generous carefully.

Russ,If you broke a prop and it is a soob, you'd better start suspecting the crank shaft and con rods as well, just to add to your worries.I know of a similar incident where everything was affected, check your engine mounts as well, etc..

S**t, sorry to hear that Russell.I will be arriving Darwin next wed just before midnight.CASA were considering a 3 week instrument for me to train out of Oenpelli, but with the weekends happening I don't think it will be sorted out by then.We most likely will be training out fof MKT (I hope I got thaqt right)Emain me all your phone numbers at mail@firebirdgyros.com so that I can contact you.We will have to fly from Jabiru to MKT. We will be using the the owners Raf, but I would love to catch up with you. Echo, I lost a lense out of my glasses through the prop. The scratched one stayed put, and the good lense fell out and went through the prop!!!![:0]Aussie Paul. [8]www.firebirdgyros.com

I think when a prop and a a dog get together, the correcr technical name for it is "the scarlet mist"Marcus.

Reminds me of my old mans sheep dog [passed away now, both of them ] but his dog used to have a thing for anyone using a crank handle, was always a source of amusement when you asked someone to swing the motor over and the old dog never missed !!!Birdy, you must have one quick hound there, even slow reving blades still move fairly quickly 27 feet out .Its going to be interesting if he ever catches a blade .You never know how far you can go, till you get there !
