Hi Tim,Mate, my EJ22 is a post 94 donk and is subsequently an interference engine (pistons can contact valves etc) If my timing belt lets go then I am no doubt up for a bit of cash. I believe they went back to interference engines due to power gains within the heads. Pre 94 engines are free clearence engines.... Thought you would like to knowPaul

The EA81 has a gear driven cam. The EJ22 has clearance between the piston and valves in all situations, so a failed timing belt does not do any other damage. It may be a different story with modified camshafts.I am not sure about the EJ25.Beginner's quotation - "I hit a bad gust of wind just as I took off"Tim McClureBroken Hill

Subaru is very rare around here. What made me post about that was a Honda car I had once for my wife to drive. It lost a timing belt and done lots of damage from valves and pistons hitting each other.Thankfully it was under warranty.[]Flying the wrong side up in Canada

You can pick them up at the wreckers with reasonable kms on them. I used to have a couple wreckers who would keep an eye out for suitably crashed vehicles for me.Aussie Paul.[]www.firebirdgyros.com
