Thought i'd better report a near thing that scared the cr@p outa me the other day.During my little jaunt east last week, i had the missfortune of getn tangled up in some heavy rain for bout 4 hours. I was expectn to get a good look at some country i'v never seen but coz of the rain i never saw much at all through the windscreen and doors of the wasa that were constantly covered in water.And to make things more interestn, the planed fuel stop at Scott Sargood's place didn't look like a good option coz his blacksoil road/strip was under water. I was getn low on fuel, but as i cut power to splash in, Scott yelled over the UHF " don't land ere, you'll be bogged for days", so i powered on and asked him wot me options were.After getn directions from Scott, i found another farm bout 20km further on that had a sealed road to the shed door which was a far better option.Cutn a long story short, I fueled up and started on the afternoon leg.Trouble was, the sealed road was quite narrow, and keepn the wasa off the sticky blacksoil was a contract. I prerotated and started me TO roll up a hill out of a shallow valley where there was no wind assistance. Just as i broke ground i felt a strong tail wind near the top of the hill and with the warm air, humidity, full fuel plus some, i found i wasn't go'n to clear the fence that was quickly approchn, and i couldn't fit through the grid coz of a tree that was too close to the road, so i opted to abort. I managed to put it back on the narrow bit of seaded road, but the tail wind ment the rotors weren't go'n to stop me before i hit the grid and trimm his trees. Instinctivly I stomped on the breaks and to my supprise the machine skidded off the road coz one wheel was on the seal and the other was on the wet n slippery blacksoil, and was now in a side drift across the paddock, thankfully missn the grid, fence and tree, but now on only the right main and nose wheel. I near pushed the stick outa the door as i used the rotor lift to keep me from have'n to make a very embarresing phone call to the opps bloke at biggerden.After getn unbogged and back on the seal, i TO back down the hill and had a relitavly uneventfull trip to biggendon.I'd like to thank Scott and family for his help and hospitality on the way over and back.Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were.birdy, here.

congratulations on your long flight birdy.I was not keen on going that far with an ea81 behind me. My block cracked when I went on that little flight across the Tanimi. Thanks to bore water it stopped leaking,but the inflight stress waiting for the temp. gauge to go beserk is too much!max
