Well once the might of govt come to the front again, with little Pommy pr&ck who wanted to make a name for himself out here at longreach a week or so ago.Once again I offered to go look for him as I am only about 80km from where it happened, once again fw ultralights were used but the gyro was told not to come anywhere near the area.So I am over it completely, don"t bother to ring me about this type of thing in the future cause I be busy having a beer. Why is what I want to know

Eventually the light will go on!

I pushed this barrow several times a few years ago with CASA and also AusSar. I even told AusSar that generally, the pilot would not even want fuel money. From memory, they said that gyros were not properly recognised Australian aircraft or words to that effect. That was after Bones had a run-in with some wally that was supposed to be co-ordinating the search for a missing glider. As it turns out, the fancy high performance FW that they hired from the coast flew straight over the wreck and didn"t see it. Probably pouring themselves another cup of coffee at the time!!The funny thing is, that when it suits CASA, gyros ARE Australian aircraft, especially when it comes to their statistics and justification to their peers in Govt. There ain"t no logic here but then, when was a Govt. Dept. ever logical??Waddles.

CASA probably hasnt realized that we do have gyros with VHFetc.Wot the hell has regulation got to do with lookn for a lost sole??If i was stuck out in the simpson, i wouldnt give a **** if a hang glider found me.Actualy, like a gyro, the hang glider would be a better choise. Why?Coz they can SEE the ground.Casa should be hung by the b*lls [ if they have any] if sumone is found dead, coz it took too long to find him, specialy if theres a perfectly good gyro within a coupla hours flyin time. All you need is communication.

Interesting fact about "going for a look".Recently, a pilot went missing near Caboolture. Whilst the alarm wasn"t raised until several hours after the aircraft went missing, the rescue helicopters were on the scene pretty shortly after that. To my knowledge, no aircraft from Caboolture were asking to help in the search. There may have been other reasons for this, but don"t know. Those choppers cost a fortune to run and one wonders at the economics of those as opposed to a few FW or a bunch of gyros. The night of the accident, the Aero Club Pres sent around an email stating that he had been asked to advise members that no aircraft were to infringe the area being searched by the choppers. Going for a look could have had nasty consequences. Not with the choppers, but with those allegedly in control. Seems that they know, everyone wants to get out and help, then take steps to actively prevent this. The aircraft was found later on day 2. The pilot died.Waddles.

One of the searches iv"e been on, I told the guy I needed a light observer as my engine was gutless, so they gave me a female Two black hawks later joined in the search. I was told they were $16,000 per hr. each. At the end I was informed that the guy we were looking for who was hiding from us after rolling a vehicle with drugs inside, was the son of a prominent person and told to leave the state. I was never told who he was. My gyro cost them (the taxpayer) $50 per hr. (cost price)
