    Gidday All,The Board has approved the conduct of a Technical Awareness Course to be held at Caboolture over 3 days later this year.I am seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified members to attend the course.A minimum of 8 candidates is required, with a maximum of 12. Following are the details:WHERE: Hangars 57/59 Caboolture Airport, Qld.WHEN: Sept. 24,25,26; or Sept 30 Oct 1,2; or Oct 7,8,9; To be settled by majority preference.DEADLINE: August 31st, 2011.ATTENDANCE FEE: $100TRANSPORT/ACCOMMODATION/MEALS: Attendees responsibility.PREREQUISITES: The Board has approved the following:Unless approved by the Operations Manager in consultation with the Technical Manager, attendees at an ASRA Technical Awareness course shall meet the following criteria:• Have satisfactorily constructed at least 1 gyro;• Have a comprehensive knowledge of ASRA Gyroplane Construction Standards;• Possess knowledge of the characteristics of aluminium alloys, 4130 steel and aluminium extrusions commonly used in gyroplanes;• Possess knowledge of AN fasteners, rod ends, pushrods and rudder cabling;• Possess knowledge of the range of rotor and propeller blade types likely to be encountered on gyros;• Possess knowledge of Rotax 2 and 4 stroke engines; Subaru engines and variants; and, propeller redrives;• Possess some knowledge of composites and glass or carbon reinforced plastics and resins;• Possess good knowledge of corrosion characteristics of aluminium and steel alloys and knowledge of galvanic corrosion of fasteners;• Display an awareness of gyro-appropriate mechanical workshop tools and processes;• Display a comprehensive knowledge of the appropriate sections of the publication known as: AC 43.13 "Aircraft Inspection, Repair and Alterations"(US Department of Transportation);• Be prepared to methodically and thoroughly inspect a gyroplane presented for "sign-off" and if necessary to refuse to sign-off;• Be prepared to issue an ASRA Defect Notice which will have the effect of grounding a gyroplane until the defect is rectified;• Be a current financial member of ASRA;• Hold or have previously held a valid ASRA pilot certificate; and• Be prepared to assist ASRA members within a reasonable distance with construction advice.Candidates who successfully complete a Technical Awareness Course may be issued with ASRA Technical Adviser qualifications upon the satisfactory completion of an on-line examination (open book but time limited).Please advise your interest by email to me before the deadline.Thanks.Regards,Allan Wardill
