I went up to Biggenden yesterday for a bit of a look. The co-ordinance are 25.31.5 South and 152.03 East, height 397 feet. All the accommodation has been booked out for the past two months for the Easter period however, there is room at the caravan park for both caravans and tents. Tent sites are charged at $10.00 per day so for those who are interested in using these facilities, you will need to phone to book. I did not ask at the time but I am sure the showers etc would be available, at a charge. The caravan park is a couple of kilometres from the airstrip. There are no toilets or showers at the airstrip but there is a sporting building close by that has a toilet I believe. I don't know whether there is drinking water available there either.I have opted to camp at the airstrip but I am not aware of any arrangements made by the host to cater for this. Are there going to be any facilities available i.e. toilets and showers? Perhaps someone could advise us of this.Since this airfield is frequented by aircraft from neighbouring towns, I can only assume this place is going to be rather busy. The Commercial Hotel appears to cater for a very good restaurant so I am confident this one will be the most popular.I would appreciate if someone can let us know the queries above please as there is no mention of this in the magazine (that I have found).Barry Ferguson - BrisbaneLets Torque Hirth Power here...logic will get you from A to B - imagination will take you anywhere

I am quite surprised I have had no reply from anyone involved. I did receive the following e-mail:Hello Barry FergusonYou received the following message from: Bugsy (ambugden@bigpond.net.au) At: http://www.asra.org.au/forum/Hi Barry,Just noticed your post re facilities at the Biggenden airstrip. Can't help you with what is arranged but the sports field near the strip has been booked by the Wide Bay Wanderers Motorhome club who will be camping on the sports grounds over Easter and no doubt taking a keen interest in your Championships. Expect there will be 30 plus motorhomes on site.Arthur BugdenPresidentWide Bay WanderersBarry Ferguson - BrisbaneLets Torque Hirth Power here...logic will get you from A to B - imagination will take you anywhere

Barry,Give Dave Stubberfield a ring. As far as I am aware the council have offered to provide portable toilets at the airstrip over the event. The sports field opposite the strip does have a tiolet block with 1 or 2 cubicles in each. I suggest you take your own supply of "Wondersoft". The shower under the building is void of water pressure - I do not recommend this to anyone unless your of Brittish origon. The caravan park offers showers for $2. Not 5 star but seems to be plenty of hot water. There is water at the sports field. I have used tank water to refill water bottles from there previously. Pretty sure there is town water on hand also.I haven't spoken to Dave for quite a while about it, but last time I did he had arranged for catering at the sports field, they have a kitchen etc which can cater for a crowd. Last year there was quite a gathering of vintage bike's which was catered for which seemed to be very good. The Commercial isn't a bad watering hole. Beers cold, publican's friendly .. restaurant out back, meals are reasonable and don't cost the earth. The airstrip is not busy at all (until the gyro's arrive that is). On the days that I have been there I have only seen 2 aircraft, and they werent local. However I would expect there may be a few that opt to fly in and have a look at what's happening over easter. If you want to clarify anything, give Dave Stubbfied a call on 0414 634 743Safe Flying ... ding Good judgment comes from experience and experience comes from bad judgment

Gyro News Spring '05 - " Facilities: Showers & toilets at adjacent sports ground are approx.200 metres from strip ,extra onsite toilets will also be available....." So anyone camping with their families will have to compete with the motorhomers for one shower under a building.....? I would have thought that to cater for the amount of people that plan to camp that two showers ( male/female) with hot / cold water would be available , without having to travel to the caravan park.

I spoke with Dave yesterday by phone. He confirmed his intentions were to have toilet portable facilities available and designated areas for camping, catering etc however, he did say that he has not had approval from the council for camping as yet.Arther replied to my e-mail and wrote:Hi Barry,Many of our members are self contained in their rigs but we have booked the sports grounds facilities to have access to their toilets etc. I believe the facilities are very limited and I don't think they would cope with a large influx of people. We usually like to get a camp spot with some facilities for those who don't have them on board. I see ding has responded and perhaps Dave can fill you in with the details.RegardsArthur BugdenI recall the crowd that attended and or camped during the Nationals at Watts bridge, we had about 6 portaloo's I think and hired a portable shower block with four showers, a water tanker for water and had an old diesel generater popping smoke rings in the background to provide power to heat the water. That was a great setup and there were certainly some very appreciative people around.Barry Ferguson - BrisbaneLets Torque Hirth Power here...logic will get you from A to B - imagination will take you anywhere

At "Netallie" fly-inns there was four men's toilets and one ladies, and three men's showers and one ladies. Even so there was still some waiting time in the mornings and evenings. Every body did camp on site though. Even so there is nothing more likely to spoil an event than lack of facilities and conveniences.Tim McClureBroken Hill
