Gidday All,I have just received the following from CASA, so am asuming that this is the definitive answer to the questions relating to Security Requirements:"Your members do not use a CASA issued flight crew licence. (A special pilot licence is a licence issued by CASA to recognise a foreign licence, and has the same effect as a PPL but can use either the foreign medical certificate or an Australian [CASA] medical certificate.) Hence the security check requirement does not apply to HGFA, RA-Aus, ABF, ASRA or GFA members who are flying on the basis of a pilot certificate issued by one of these organisations unless they are flying into a security designated aerodrome. At the security designated aerodromes (a list of 141 aerodromes was appended to the letter from DOTARS that Glen quoted) people who visit one of these regularly during the times when a security classification applies must either hold an ASIC themselves, or wear a visitor identification and be accompanied at all times when in the security designated area by a person who displays an ASIC."I hope this clarifies the matter for you all.Regards,Waddles

Thanks Allan. So what it really means is that if you trip around the country side operating in and/or out of those 141 security designated aerodromes, it would be wise to have an ASIC. To everyone else it doesn't matter.Good news.Aussie Paul.[]www.firebirdgyros.com

Hi Allan and Paul,Allan, I have heard there is to be a delay on the introduction of the ASIC. Someone mentioned 3 months. Have you heard any more? I know they are way behind in processing them.Hoges

Scott, they did extend the time to have an ASIC card until the end of March, but only if the application was in before the end of December!!! Anyone who had their application for an ASIC card in before the end of December will not be prosecuted if they get caught without an ASIC card in an area where they are required to have one. Clear as mud isn't it???Aussie Paul. www.firebirdgyros.com
