  • Mandatory requirements

In section 5.01 under gyroplane certification it underlines the minimum requirements required to build a Gyroplane here in Australia.Question is, "Is it a requirement that all ASRA registerd gyroplanes have a horizontal Stablizer fitted"In the US and UK this is so.I cant find this rulling in our OPS Manual, so could someone please confirm this for me.

Sam,For single seat gyro"s the answer is horizontal stabs are highly recommended. For Two Seat Gyros they are mandated in the two seat standards, however if through flight testing you can prove that the gyro is more stable without one then the Technical Manager may be convinced to issue a excemption. I hope that helps,Adrian

Thanks AdrianI would have thought that Australia would have progressed further with the HS issue than just a recommendation in the case of single seaters.Regards Sam.........

Guys,I understand it was a transition issue from the old gyro design days in the provisional category to the new thinking of type certification for a single seater should the owner or manufacturer wish to go that way.Remember the great aspect of our Aust system is it allows you to be creative. We need to always leave the door open for change but still balance the need for safety even in the single seat machine. Regards,Adrian
