Sam,I've just had a long talk with 3M Australia, who have not heard of the 6935E 7184 (87) S/S tape, however agreed that NZ do make a lot of other products, the tape 3M sell to the Aviation industry is the PUL0612 for the sole reason of it's abillity to absorb shock over metal tapes, for example their re-enforced Alumunium tape #425I, now I know this is really not much help with the S/S dept, so I will stick with the easily available proven product.Pete Barsden

John,I use the 3m PUL0612b on both my fixedwing and gyro props and have flown through rain when I havent been able to avoid it and the tape is as good as Pete says. I have been using it on helicopter tail rotors that spin faster and are subject to greater "sand blasting" then anything our gyro's pickup(except "honky" nuts). 3M clear tape is much beter than ss tape in both pea gravel and sand strips.Hope this helps.AdrianAdrian Stoffels

I gota dissagree Adrian,I'v used plastic prop tape and SS tape, and I get a better run outa the SS by a country mile.I found the plastic stuff used to get nicks init and then the air would get under it, then itd fill with sand, make'n for a badly balanced blade.Except for the usual sand blasting, the SS tape has never torn from rock strike, but trees tend to make a mess of it for sum reason.Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were. You can always get the answer you want, if you ask enough experts.

Try ether Russ,it dissolves most things, but you might have to sweet talk a pharmacist as it's a bit restricted due to being used in the illegal drug manufacturing scene.John EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.

The 3M numbers I posted earlier were taken straight from a roll of S/S prop tape, but it is an old roll, maybe 1987.I have always used S/S and operated from a dirt strip. After comparing the condition of my props to other props operating on the same strip, but using clear tape, I concluded I wouldnt use anything else.Sam.

Grasshopper,I will tell you the secret....................After removing the 3M clear tape, spray some "De-Solv-it" (sticky spot and stain remover) (from any hardware) onto a green kitchen scourer and gently remove the sticky gum, then spray some Mr Muscle onto a rag and remove any of the oily based De-Solve-It, wipe down with a clean rag and presto the new tape will go on eazily and quickly.Pete Barsden

I prefer the clear 3M tape for several reasons: -Cheapereasier to install nicks are easily repairableless prone to small stone and grit damageKeeps leading edge shapeBoth tapes handle rain OK.The SS tape is good but as soon as the leading edge starts to flatten over, the performance suffers drastically and the leading edge under the tape is also damaged. If the clear tape get a nick, simply clean out under it and put a drop of superglue under it and hold it down for a few seconds, and ready to fly again. Most trouble reported with clear tape is due to incorrect installationTim McClure
