Still waiting to hear the life of a 912 from birdy but does anyone know where a 912 can be sort which might be under 10 grand? You just missed one. Deano had one for 5K. Had 2500 hrs on it. That tells you you can get 2500 if you look after them. I seem to ecall that Birdy was reckoning on getting 3000 out of his, but may be wrong. I take notice of things like that, as I tend to relate things back to $ per hour flying. If you do the sums $ per hour for a 582 vs a 912S, the 912 is a lot cheaper.

You should get the 2000 hours and you might go further without problems. They are only a small motor, lots of heart but what makes me think a bit is that most 912 owners buy a new motor and choose NOT to do the old one up. Now, why is that so ? could be cost of parts etc where as a sooby only needs a set of rings, and a few other bits and pieces and you are back in the air pretty cheap.Personally, I love the 2.2, with a bit of care, 3000 hours is easy and one I know did 3800 and was still going okay. Mine still doesn"t burn oil and seems no different from the day I first flew it.Having said that, if money was not an issue, I would have a 912 or 914, depending on the weight its carrying!

Have a talk to Rob Patroney. I think he can do a rebuild on a 912. I went to 2800 hrs before mine had the first rebuild. If you get one with 2000 hrs on it, go on condition - compression, oil pressure, ect. It may go to 3000 before needing a rebuild.

Lets face it 25k is not much money in the big scheme of things today, damn you can hardly buy a decent car for that.

$25,000 is a lot of money for me too, thats one reason why I havent got one. The less weight thing appeals to me though I have only flown an Owen Dull 2 seater with a 912, I was impressed by how easily it did the job and convert that to a single seater with less weight again and its got to be a great little performer. Was at Rosco"s one day and he had a finished single [pod 912 there and I was able to lift one main wheel of the floor reasonably easy, mine, no way can you lift it I need to build a new gyro but it doesnt seem to be happening yet and for me, its probably going to be a Rosco, single seat 2.2 Soob with an autoflight gearbox and the SD link computer.

Well what can i say, thats my thoughts on it, not trying to convert anyone, fly with what you like, no probs for me at all, but i know that if i am down in the trees i know(with in reason) that the green tapett covers are gonig to keep making noise, that is enough for me.

If power to weight isnt an issue, then go EJ22.If you want zip, go 912.Pretty simple. And im with bones, 25k is cheap.I know my head is ugly, but my neck is worth more n 25k.
