I'm in the process of rebuilding a 582[^], in the gear that i recieved was the gudgeon bearings, the ones that i recieved were caged in a plastic cage, the reason for this post is sometime ago i read something about this but cant find it again, are these type of bearings acceptable or not, the ones that came out were not caged so i'm thinking that the caged ones are not to be used???? If some one can help me on this, would be great thanks..[?]Mark

Mark, the ones in a steel cage with separaters between the rollers are the early ones and should not be used. The ones in the plastic assembly packaging with all the rollers touching (31 I think) are the correct ones. In place they are called "cageless needle bearings". A special tool should be used to assemble them.Tim McClure
