Hi Can anyone give me any info on fitting a EA81 turbo EFI to my Rosco single setThe info Im chasing is re the ECU are thier any better alternative than the Wolf V500 ECU?Is anyone running this set up?Does anyone know what pressure fuel pump is required? If anyone can help give us a ring on 0891691335w/h or 0891691212 A/H and I will ring you backRegards Neville

Hello Neville, I have spent a lot of time reading through the performance car forums in regards to ecu"s and they all seem to be reliable. The brand of ecu used in an area seems to depend on who tunes them. The main cause of problems appears to be wiring and tuning sometimes sensors. The EMS stinger seems like a good basic unit that will drive four injectors and four coils. I have downloaded the program and it looks easy to tune. This is about the simplest ecu I"ve found and has every thing needed for a gyro. The casing and connections at the ecu dont appear to be waterproof so would need a good cover with ventilation. The Link Storm ecu looks good too, about twice the price but has waterproof connections. Autronic has waterproof units that are also used on jetski"s and boats but they are dearer still and need an IBM computer to tune. The best thing is to look up an ecu your thinking of using on the car forums. With a turbo you have to use a map sensor, some ecu"s have them built in and others don"t. The map sensor combined with the intake air temp sensor will also compensate for barametric pressure. Another one to look into is Simple Digital Systems. They make one for uncertified aircraft. The efi fuel pumps put out 60psi or better. You will also need a fuel regulator on the fuel rail that is connected to the intake manifold and adjusts the pressure acording to manifold pressure.I"m setting up an Adaptronic but I think the EMS stinger may have been better as as it will work at higher ecu temp and higher engine temp.Cheers Peter.

Here"s a EMS 4424 stinger forum.http://www.enginemanagement.com.au/f...um.php?f=3Some of the ecu"s have their own forum that you can look through if you have problems. The best way to check out the different brands though is to check the Performance forums.

Thanks all for the infoSome info I have come up with is that in a gyro the turbo may do little but just add weight The motor Im looking at has a injec ECU and reading on a car forum they can be a bit hard to get a long withAnd with all the info I have it all comes down to the bloke tuning the motor and Im sure a lot of you have come across "if its in a gyro I dont want anything to do with it" and with out special equipment you are behind the 8 ballPlease keep the info coming as I have not given up yetBut with a price tag of about 30k the rotax is a "one power ball" optionRegards Neville

The a standard ea 81 is a marginal motor on a gyro. The info I got from a quick search on google is that the standard engine runs a low compression of 8.5 to 1. This is about the compression ratio of other factory turbo engines. With premium unleaded most NA engines run between 9.5 and 10 to 1 compression ratio. Check the compression and if it is around the 8.5 to 1 you will be able to run a fair bit of boost and and gain a lot of power for climb or to throw it around a bit. As far as tuning the simple digital systems setup may be the easiest. They dont require a laptop to tune.http://www.sdsefi.com/aircraft.htmlh...gram.htmlPeter.

G"day Nev. A good turbo EA81 is quite a powerhouse. It is generally quite safe to run up to 5 lbs boost with the std comp ratio as long as you have good fuel. The factory turbo engines have dished pistons and you can run more boost (8 + lbs depending on fuel) for more power again. You will have to make up your own exhaust system (the factory one is very heavy) from stainless because the heat will kill a mild exhaust. The muffling effect of the turbo is a bonus. I have run the Wolf, Injec and Motec and of those I preferred the Wolf (dashboard and laptop programable). However the current Wolf"s are considerably more complicated with many more features, much of which you will never need. Once up and running though fine tuning is comparatively easy and once fully set, should not have to be touched for the life of the engine.

Tim..............back in the 70"s, i turboed my ea81............did not have any exhaust system at all, just a largish exhaust outlet pipe from the turbo.........about 5" long.........that was it.The "turbo" assy was me muffler. Reduced comp ratio to 7 to 1...........max boost was about 15 pounds....bit lessSpinning a 2 blader 56" wooden prop......direct drive, no boxes in them days. Engine would pull like hell and at cruise, was boosting about 2 pounds max. This little engine NEVER missed a beat..........was a ripper. Was out of a "brumby" twin ported i think. Now that i"m thinkin about this...........i think me prop was made by you........"Eagle" i think it was.

Thanks Art, I had just bought a stinger as a backup incase I cant get the adaptronic to run. Everything Ive read about them indicates their reliable so hopefully it is just the earlier models that caused problems. Peter.
