Had exactly the same prob on me twin carbed ea81..........honed out the carbs just a tad, polished em up again...........slightly stronger springs, and 2 x 64th holes in me slides ( sides )..........prob solved
Thanks EricI don"t want to change anything as it is going so well.I did think about a stronger spring it might be the way to go.Did a bit more ringing around and another dealer thought the round slide would ice up more as you said.Andrew
Hey Russ - what carbs were you using ? Where did you drill the two 64th holes ? I"ll be bringing to Burren Junction for auction a stainless intake manifold with a SU carb on it to suit a EA 81 if anyone is interested.
Mikuni"s..........i think they were 34mm onesholes were to relieve any suction grip of the slides onto the sides of the carby, only needed bleedin small ones too............one each side of slide, at the top areas.Worked 97 poocent of the time, just the odd blip to get to idle. Was on me piece of shyte sub4 from bundy.
Well seems everyone who is anyone has tried the "old rg 250 carbruater trick..ay"!I made up a setup as well, and guess what? had the same teething troubles, but I never could get it to run under 1000 revs. However, the motor seemed much stronger with the twin carbies than with the Hitachi, also I never had any trouble with Icing, hot or cold days at 2200 ft. I ended up putting another carby on because I had to keep switching the ignition on and off on the way to the hanger otherwise we got a little quick on the bumpy ground. The gyro never went anywhere near as good as it did with the flat slides. I wish I had have known about the 2x 64th holes to release the suck on the slides, but then again, I never knew that Russ was so smart! ;DMark.
