Echo, what did you do with the missing thermostat? How did you regulate your water temp using that manifold?

Thanks Echo. I am rebuilding a recently purchased Amax machine where the manifold thermostat location has had the thermostat removed and a pipe welded in to allow the starter motor access. They have placed a manual valve in the water pump side to control the temp. As if you don"t have enough on your mind flying without also manually controlling your water temp! The other consideration is that thermostats are usually placed amongst the metal of the engine so that there is some heat storage. This gives a smoother action without a series of quick open/ shut cycles on the part of the thermostat and prevents temperature shocks to the system.
