benny, You need heads off a FI motor for the injectors but otherwise, should be no problems BUT I'm no techy, Tim and Rosco do all my work. You would need to upgrade to a high pressure fuel pump as well and those pumps sell for around the $200 mark or more.A surge tank for the fuel return from the injectors is needed as well.BrianYou never know how far you can go, till you get there !

Brian makes the important point about fuel cleanliness with FI. An old friend of mine with experience dating back to the original Redex Trials tells me that in order to stop the infamous red dust getting into the fuel it is important to filter the air entering the tank, so identify where the tank breathes and ensure that it has a filter.John EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.

Thanks John. Just to add to fuel cleanliness, could I also mention with FI motors that a fuel pressure gauge in the dash is very helpfull in determing if between filter changes you have picked up a bad lot of fuel as you will see an increase in fuel pressure. This is very relevant when refuelling from drums.I use a Rapid flow pump with a filter, yet a lot of rubbish seems to get through. It seems the unleaded fuel today is very ordinary in quality and can go 'off' fairly quickly.Having said that, the Suby has always started and run despite the motorbikes having trouble running smoothly and being hard to start, particularly on hot days.BrianYou never know how far you can go, till you get there !

quote:Originally posted by ben--nybrian do ya think a fi manifold and ecu off a turbo unit would work on a standerd ea81 ??/Benny.A turboed inlet manifold will not fit onto a standard EA81. The porting is different between the two. As Brian said, you would have to run the turbo heads, and if your were going to do this, you might as well source a complete turbo engine, as the internals are stronger. My brother and myself got his turboed engine from the local Jap import for $700. All we needed to add was the alternator and computer. The engine was said to be only 40,000klms old. Hope this helpsRegardsTURTLE.

G'day Turtle and others. The turbo inlet manifold does fit onto a standard EA81, and the heads also fit, the only difference being the extra mouldings in the head to take the fuel injectors. The engine block is also the same in all significient respects, with just the addition of a threaded moulding to take the knock sensor. The factory twin carb engine has different heads with reversed porting and a different cam to suit. All the parts are still interchangeable as long as the twin carb cam goes with the twin carb heads.Tim McClure

It seems to me, with my very limited experience with FI, that a very good reason for not using the original automotive computer with later models is their requirement for all sorts of information, and provision for facilities that are not relevant. For example control of the airconditioning and cruise control are now usually incorporated into the computer. I understand that in most cases it won't run, or in the case of a Subaru the engine shuts down after 6 seconds at full throttle if it's not fed speed data, ( no prizes offered for guessing where that puts you 6 seconds into T/0!). Thus various modifications have to be made to feed the thing false information. As an aircraft engine always has the load of the propellor on it, the computer's task is much simpler than that of a car.I will be using an Engine Managment system for my Rotary developed by Tracy Crook of Real World Solutions, it's fully duplicated, you either run on computer A or B. One can be set up for climb and T/O power, and the other for cruise. It only requires inputs from Manifold Pressure, Crank Angle Sensor and Manifold Air Temp. I will be using a visual read out from an Oxygen Sensor to monitor, and if required adjust mixture in flight.John EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.
