I"ve got a 1000hr. 914 humming like a dream. (new installation for a client) but the orange warning light continuously flashes indicating a turbo malfunction. Do I have to hire a nurd at this point or is there something I could of stuffed up? (Not much experience with rotax) I"ve been a subaru man out of economic necessity.

Max,first question is, when you turn on the power does the waste gate motor do a self test, ie open and close then stay fully closed?second question have you set the pressure on the waste gate cable properly?thrid question, do you have the little spring inside the cable end, to hold pressure on the cable properly?forth question, does the light flash without the motor running, ie turn the power on let things settle down it should not be flashing, it and the red will flash a few times as soon as the power goes on, but then both should go off.The spring i am talking about is a small one that goes inside the cable end at the motor end( i had it zippy tied to the motor last time i saw it), so you can put the required pressure on the cable to ensure it is closed properly. that light will normally only flash if there is a problem with the waste gate set up correctly upon start up.I would advise you not continue running it until you sort this out, as the motor part(waste gate controler) is about 3k worth, and that motor was running perfectly prior.Ill be home after nite shift u can ring me tomorrow nite if you like, ill send you my number if you need it.

G"Day Bones. Thanks for coming back on that. If you were an ugly woman, I"d kiss you. You motivated me to go outside in the dark in my jocks with a torch and look at the set-up. I realised that the two wires from the ecu that had to be switched had a plug on one side and no plug on the other. So I had crimped two mini spades and made a connection. So I had a 50-50 chance. AT the time I remember thinking it maybe doesn"t matter which way. Well, I reversed the two wires and bingo. It all started working. 3g for a new servo motor. Rotax really know how to screw us! I guess the system is a bit like the eddic motor on the fuel pump of the 1980s Landcruisers.

No probs at all mate, i sorted a few probs out with them of the last few years even fixed Birdy"s new one while i was there last year, he wont give it to me though.Just make sure that you have set the right pressure on the cable, i think from memory, when the waste gate motor is closed, you tighten the adjusters until the waste gate is closed properly, then its 1 full turn on the cable adjuster, and this is what the spring is for to take this tension. Other wise the waste gate might not be closed if not tight enough, or you risk burning out the waste gate motor if its too tight, as it has like a limit switch inside and it must go back to there to turn off.Glad you sorted it out.
