it"s been about 3 months since I have started my engine. I want to go flying tomorrow or when ever and it also needs an oil and filter change . I"ve got a pretty basic sort of question. is it better to now drain the oil cold, seeing it"s been sitting for 3 months, or run the engine and warm it up like your supposed to and then i"m getting the oil to really drain out from up in the engine, probably no wrong answer. i"m swayed towards the cold drain this time.

Yes the oil would be sitting in the sump bottom, if your going to do just drain the oil cold, leave the plug out for a few days at least. Then fill it up, Maybe shorten the duration of your next oil change. After your done with the oil thing, give it a drink of Subaru upper cylinder lubricant.

I actually did the cold drain elwynne, and flushed with about a litre of new oil and let that drain as well for a bit . I was happy with that choice. I hadn"t mentioned that I had modifyied my EA81 sump when the engine was in the build all those ago, I pressed a "divot" in the center of it and welded in a threaded socket and plug, this is my new drain plug, in the center and low. the origanial suby position [ which is still there ] is "not at the lowest point" and also points directly at the r/h exhaust pipe for changing the oil. that was a *****, but now it"s enjoyable. it would be enjoyable if I got to fly the bloody thing too, i"ll lose my license the way I"m going, oh yeah my rego sticker arrived the other day [ thanks MR rego sticker sender man or girl. ;D ;D ;D did you get yours jussy. if not it shouldn"t be far off.
