Ted,are you going to start picking on me now that Russ has "Pulled the pin"???.Even thou Waddles gave me supreme authority when he left he said I'm not allowed to touch anything or do anything. He did however say I could ground a few pilots if it made me feel better, but where would you start??.Sam,The 618 in the tandem gyro was sold to put in a single seater. The reason for this was I got a good deal on a brand new 618 so it went into the tandem. The new 618 has about 180 hrs and the old 260,both engines are as good as new.Neither Gyro is owned by me anymore and the owners rarely fly them.M BarkerMost powerfull person in ASRA.(Acting)Image Insert: 69.98

Hey DarylLooks like your set for the next 4 years at least !!!!!The equivilent to Penrite TS40C (mineral base oil) is Castrol Activ 2T (also mineral based).I have been using TS40C for the last 4-5 years, as a pre-mix, and all has been great. From the research I have done, I have found that if TS40C is mixed well in a fuel container, then poured into your aircrafts tank, then allowed to circulate into your engine, with the fuel, it has had an adequate time to mix in with the fuel.If your using oil injection, then this may present a problem, because it does'nt get the same amount of time to mix. From what I understand, Castrol Activ 2T is self mixing, and can be poured into your tank full of fuel. In my opinion, this would make the Castrol Activ 2T better in a Oil injected motor, as it mixes easier and quicker. These oils are both mineral based, meaning they both possess good clinging properties, and prevent corrosion, and drying-out during long inactive periods. But being mineral based means they do cause gumming, carbon build up, and deposits. Carbon is one of the worlds hardest materials, and if left to accumulate in your motor could cause exccess wear, and seizures. On the other hand, consider Castrol TTS is 100% Synthetic, doesn't promote carbon build up, and therefore promotes longer engine life. The clinging propertise of Synthetic arent as good as mineral, but if used with oil injection, I beleive the oil will reach the critical engine components sooner and more consentrated.Castrol do promote it as having "Exellent lubricity for outstanding protection of bearings and resistance to piston seizure" they also state "It is formulated to maintain a tough, replenishing layer of protection on engine parts"This is all based on the feedback I have had, and Castrol product data sheets, and is my opinion only. For this reason, I will be swapping to the Castrol TTS. If it could give me only 100, or more flying hours, then it is worth it to me.Sam L. [^]

One other important point !!!!!!!!!When you go back and turn to Section 10.2.3 under "Lubricants" in your Rotax Operators Manual for engine types, you will find Castrol TTS mentioned by "name" as an eg. of the oil recommended by Rotax as either pre-mix or oil injection.Sam ......[]

Hi Sam. I work on a simple theory. People that use Castrol hear "stories" about Penrite. People that use Penrite hear "stories" about Castrol. Most people I know use Prenrite. I've always used Penrite, so I figure with a few years supply of it I'll know what everyone else changed to before I have to.Daryl Patterson

Thanx Sam, Finally got a container of TTS. [] Switched from Motul cause of the price difference and also the fact that the Castrol products are used extensively overseas (UK mainly) without any problems, and besides Castrol ain't exactly a "new" company are they []MadAl [B)]

Oil?Oil?OIL? any good oil is only as good as the fuel you mix it with [as barry already said] fuels high in non fuel like substances eg tolulen ethenol alcohol change the oils ability to adhere to metal within the engine. They also burn hotter this combined with poor oil adhesion kills 2strokes so watch your egt's & posably your total mixture not so much oil mix I have been testing EGO sensors & gauges with a veiw to gauging how BAD/ REALY BAD fuel is prior to out landing with dead engine
