OK guys, I need some help. Bought a pushbike speedo to use as my rotortach.Mounted it on the dash.It works perfectly-until I start the motor. Then the display flashes and it resets itself to configuration mode. It`s sometimes ok if I mount it on the joystick, but the minute I move it close to the instruments it resets itself again. I have earthed both ends of the shielded cable, and one by one I have disconnected each instrument(tacho, egt, engine temp, voltmeter, hourmeter, and wiring relay)but no good so far. Any ideas????? It`s a Rotax 582.

Try only earthing one end of the cable.Earthing both ends is a common trick for young players. This will sometimes create an earth loop that can affect things.telfFlying - The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. (Douglas Adams-The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy)

http://www.asra.org.au/smf/index.php?topic=1837.0Almar, I purchased a Sigma Bike Cyclometer ( and along with Nicks help) and have Stratomaster smart singles instruments running off a little 12 volt battery stored in the instrument pod with instruments. I used a 12 core computer cable for my main loom. It is shielded! I used two of the unused cables within to route the power up to the sensor. The other cables in the bundle are instrument dedicated etc.

Thank god I am ignorant of all things to do with The magical science of electricity!!!Every time I have used a pushbike speedo(usually a cat eye brand), I make the wire longer by using some old telephone extention cable with the joints soldered and heat shrinked. As long as the magnety part and the clicky bit are somewhere close to where they should live.....nothing seems to worry the tacho, doesnt seem to be a problem running the cable with any of the other wires, pre rotator, radio, ignition blah blah blah.Mark.
