Larry Neal has just purchased the first production engine ex: FortWorth Manufacturing facility in the USA for installation on a fully dressed Monarch with pod. (see Golden Butterfly ref: pod). The Monarch will sport Magnum GFLG (7 foot wide version) along with the Metro Launch System which allows for very short take offs. Two cylinder four stroke turbo designed/developed by a Kiwi, Bill White, now manufactured and distributed via US company.www.aerotwinmotors.com Apparently the engine will produce around 72 hp at 5000 plus rpm. Larry says the engine is actually heavier than figures of 95 lbs stated and is more like 125 lbs. Having said that he hopes the reliability of the four stroke will provide a viable option to the 582 rotax.I will post pics of the new Monarch, which I believe Bob Odell owns and this craft will be shown extensively in the US prior to being made available as a Monarch option.Image Insert: 9.45

G'Day Art,I believe the discrepancy is made up in the .... - Weight: Less than 95 lbs "Ready to Run" This perhaps is the direct drive version. Add to that..... - Gear Reduction Box: 18.5lbs (see detail below)This gives 113.5 lbs, I suspect 11.5 lbs to bring it up to 125 lbs is not that big a fudge. This of course all based on a brief phone call to Larry this morning, when I'm pretty sure he quoted 125 lbs as the total weight. This on the 582 Rotax for comparison.Performance Maximum power 65HP / 48KW @6500 RPM Maximum torque 55.3ft-lb / 75NM @6000 RPM Maximum RPM 6800 RPM Combustion chambers Bore 2.99" / 76.0mm Stroke 2.25" / 64.0mm Displacement 35.44cu.in. / 580.7cm³ Compression ratio Theoretical: 11.5Effective: 5.75 Weight Engine with carburetor(s) 64.4lbs / 29.2Kg Exhaust system 11.2lbs / 5.1Kg Air filter 0.7lbs / 0.3Kg Dual radiator kit 6.0lbs / 2.7Kg No gearbox, no electric starter 82.2lbs / 37.3Kg B gearbox, no electric starter 92.1lbs / 41.8Kg B gearbox, electric starter 102.9lbs / 46.7Kg C gearbox, no electric starter 99.8lbs / 45.3Kg C gearbox, electric starter 110.6lbs / 50.2Kg E gearbox 106.9lbs / 48.5Kg Looks like the Aerotwin is well placed looking at 'C' Box with elec start OR the 'E' Box version. The cost of the unit is probably about $700 to $1000 US more than the 582.Larry will be testing soon, so I'll get pics and let you know more later. This four stroke option for Monarch Butterfly's is a welcome addition to the line up. I believe Larry will, if happy with the performance, place this engine into the Super Sky Cycle.I very much enjoyed you first GyroNews edition Art.Mitch. www.thebutterflyllc.comA thinker sees his own actions as experiments and questions--as attempts to find out something.
