I make it around 2600 - 2800 KMS ? depending how far out of LA we start. I think thats only a bit more than the team that flew from Perth to the nats last year? 500 kms a day, 5 or 6 days. Even the Subaru"s could handle that...

Murray,Got the leave pass from the "boss" and have started savings plan! The trip from Bindoon to Lameroo was around 3300km in the end. For long distance flying in gyro"s with guys who are not experienced in long trips 500km a day is a good target especialy when the ground crew is following through unknown territory. Depending on winds this generally translates into 5 to 6 hours in the saddle! The other thing I would recomend is plan to fly in at least 2 days before the actual flyin is starting, this leaves time for pilot recouperation and unavoidable delays due to weather etc.Looking forward to it already.Adrian ;D

Ross,Regarding gyro"s, I will be deciding that based on what the other people fly ie if Birdy brings his Ferral , I would bring my equiv (cruises 25 to 60kts) but if everyone is flying "cruisers" then I will bring G 000 (cruises 50 to 90kts). Birdy, flying within the rules doesnt mean you cant cutloose when "operational neccesities" require such action.Adrian ;D

Adrian, this would be like a stroll in the park compared to your last cross country flight. Oshkosh opens on the Monday and goes thru to Sunday. We could arrive any time in between. My idea is not to push it but do it over a number of easy days with enough time every day for rest maintenance and sightseeing. It will be summer at that time of year so early starts and early finishes each day.Ross if I still have the "Hunchback" I would take it but I"m building another at the moment and should have it ready for Wangaratta. Its a "bit" different.

Birdy, I don"t think that Customs would be a problem.Quarantine would make you wash it though and that might be a shock to it.

Birdy, you would be treated as some sort of "God" over there. schools would close for the day just to see you fly past, the Presidents motorcade would be held as you went buy, sales of thongs would skyrocket, Air Force One would be on standby if the trusty "Feral" so much as missed a beat. The cows, the missus, and Harry will live without you for a few weeks.

Des,Maaaate....If Birdy is going the US Army will set up bivvies at every rest stop - all you"ll need is a change of undies.. oh, and a blindfold for the punkawallas in the tent - for when you get changed, though Russ probably won"t bother, being from Darwin and all that.Cheers,Nick.

Geez,Someone said to me last week, "Don"t look at your emails whilst you"re away. Look what happened the last 2 times." Look what"s happened this time!!!!!! Bloody "ell!First impressions: Truck to somewhere east of the rockies. They are bloody high and the weather and winds can be nasty.Who organises ground support? I can do some work through contacts re licences and regos etc. We would probably need to get CASA VH regos for the gyros to make it easier for the yank officials. Might be able to organise stop overs on the way either through the PRA or the EAA. They are usually pretty good about this sort of thing.Give me a few days at least to see what I can come up with at this end.Question: Does the way Muz spells "expressions" in the topic heading mean that this is just a sick joke??????????Waddles.
