  • Bead Blasting

Hi all,Has anyone given their Rotor Blades a light bead blast.

hi loafernot sure how bead blasting is done - but i wouldnt alter the weight of the rotors -just polishing the rotors is as far as i would go.if anything - bead blasting sounds aggressive on the alloy and would change the weight- you can end up with a cronic stick shake .cheers adrian

I can say that the purple polish is the best product i have used for alloy and getting fantastic results.

Hi, loafer, I once sand blasted a set of 25 ft. Ricks rotors, and they were the best dam blades I ever had. I lightly sanded them after I blasted them. (Only used a light hand sand blaster) Used to train with me, 70kg and students up to 100 kg on hot cam ea81 rosco trainer.

This is only my opinion, it is not so much as having nice clean blades but more of a rough surface.I once spent a lot of time with an electric buffer and some green polishing past and got my blades to a mirror finish, would not fly anywhere near as good as previous. I went back with some detergent and a scourer pad and roughed up the surface of the blades top and bottom. They then flew better than ever before but did not look as good? This was on one of my sets of JA rotors.Graeme.

Maybe the roughness acts like vortex generators and helps the airflow stick to the airfoil. Anyone know?

Golf balls have a rough surface for a reason! The swim suits that are now illegal for the Olympics not only had flotation but also a textured surface like shark skin!
