  • Zaon, anti collision device, to detect other aircraft transponders in your Gyro

What happened to good airmanship?I was flying in a training area near Mackay and had an unidentified aircraft coming at me, on the same altitude (1500ft) and he did not respond to my radio calls. I changed frequency and called again, but no response! Luckily he saw me (500-600m) away and turned and disappeared towards Nebo. I could not see his number, but it made me think how quick and easy things can go wrong,.... Anyway I started googling a device that could alert me if this happen again, and discovered a small portable device, that works a treat, and put me right at ease!I’ve installed it, and I am extremely happy, with the device’s performance. I hooked it up to the Gyro’s battery, and to my headsets, it gives an audible “beep beep” and visible LED display, if an aircraft come within 5Nm horizontally and/or 2000ft vertical, and another with "Alert" should it come within 1Nm. It is awesome! Light, cheap, reliable and extremely easy to install.http://www.zaon.aero/content/view/2/...v=J4aYwTTL2eMI bought my device at

Chook,I agree mate, look and see is the rule, but if fellow Gyronauts operate in busy uncontrolled airspaces, and are endorsed to fly above 500 feet, and they share circuits with other planes, and they operate just below "Delta and Charlie steps" it gets fairly complicated, and knowing where these aircraft are, is a great peace of mind.I really enjoy smart technology and it is a useful tool that weights nothing.Just a suggestion Mate.Colin

I looked at these a few years ago.

Disco,The passive Zaon, is a detector, just like the radar detector in a car. Same size and concept. The Zaon detects signals transmitted from aircraft transponders.A transponder (short-for transmitter-responder[1] and sometimes abbreviated to XPDR, is an electronic device that produces a response when it receives a radio-frequency interrogation. In aviation, aircraft have transponders to assist
