  • A question for the knowledgable.

I am researching composite gyrocopters.I know that the Windryders were all composite construction but were any all-composite two seat gyros built by anyone anywhere in the world? Has anyone come across reference to one?Surely there is some knowledgable person out there who has this information and will share it.Thanks in advance. Fish.

Fish,Suggest you look at the construction of Tandem Gliders, they are usually high tech composite construction and can off you some clues as to what to do.I hope you have a big budget though, composite construction, especially carbon fibre, is expensive, maybe not in terms of the fabric and resin, but the appropriate curing equipment such as ovens and driers. If you wish to advise what you intend on doing you may email me direct at neast@tac.com.auCheers,Nick.

Owen Dull makes the best composite 2-seat fully enclosed cab gyro that I know of ( & it is made in QLD ).

Brian, Echo, and Olbod,You have misunderstood the question. I am researching Fully composite, 2 seat gyros. The Owen Dull machines are conventional, aluminium frames with a fiberglass cover.Fish.

We understood the question very well Fish. The Owen Dull machine in my mind is way superior and much more practical for everyday use. In fact, its probably the best gyro going around anywhere and far superior to a RAF, Sparrow Hawk & UFO !!Owen's phone number is in the latest Gyro news so give him a ring Robert, if he gets enough of us 'demanding ' his gyro's, then he may start making them again.BrianYou never know how far you can go, till you get there !

Brian, what you say is absolutely correct. Fish , Owens machine isnt a conventional aluminium frame with a fibreglass cover , if you bothered to do some research you would have found that they are carbon/kevlar. A fully composite machine would price itself out of the range for most of us.Even a composite F1 car has metal components in the frame. I took a chopper pilot for a fly in mine ( no.9 built ) & he loved it. With far better seating than a RAF ( a 5-gallon drum & wheat bag would be more cmfy than a RAF) , 275kgs & 115 hp it'll do me.The only thing I would change would be installing a 912. Eric

Gents,I hear Owen might be about to get back to it. A client request to purchase, may just be what the Dr ordered.Fish,The rotary forum has some stuff on the possibilities of full composite frames and rotor heads, ect. As Eric has said, it all appears cost prohibitive. A search will give you some info.Cheers,Mitch.www.thebutterflyllc.com
