My current understanding re Councils and their requirements for gyros to carry public liability insurance is that gyros are Australian aircraft and as such are entitled to use any aerodrome listed in ERSA without prejuduce. Just like GA aircraft. They can"t discriminate.I"ve never been challenged personally, but if it happens, that will be my line and I"ll see them in court.Waddles.

I have recently heard that some NSW Govt requirements were for 50mill cover in our fireworks industry and one of the larger contractors took em to court. Now WE determine how much insurance WE want to carry. These shires or councils are the same. These clowns used to be referred to as "shire clerks" and not CEO"s. They are making it up as they go along.Chook.

Why should gyro pilots be required to have insurance when other aircraft don"t???? Are we that easy a target?Waddles.

Sure does seem a little biased and unfair, I agree. With regard to rates and charges and amount of cover, well looks like it"s up for grabs across lots of activities. I am required to have $30 mil cover in the allied health industry, there"s no choice and I have to come up with the cash or give it away full stop. The American model and their lawyers, good work you blokes

Just thought i would let anyone that is interested know about a new insurance development. I have been able to get limited third party insurance through Elders at Tamworth, they will only cover third party people and property for 1 million and passengers for 250k. I realise this is still not ideal but it is better than nothing. Anyone wishing to pursue prices etc should speak with Will Mitchell on 02 67663588.

The number of hrs you have makes a significant difference to the third party premium. I also have this in place and it"s about half of Ricks premium. Jeff.
