This is topic i know will cause a lot of controverseity. But dont get me wrong i love flying gyro,s.Here,s the big "BUT"They are priceing them selves out of the recriational market.I know a fella sold a Grazzel fix wing in real good condition not a lot of hours with a trailer.$37000.A fully enclosed gyro with a trailer would cost a lot more than that.It would not cruse at 75kts use 15l of fuel.A two seat thruster fully enclosed $15000 with a trailer.A new single seat gyro with a 912 is how much? nearly 60 grand.I would buy a new 2 seat gyro in a instant if i won gold lotto. But the sad thing is for around the same money, you can buy fix wing that are faster less fuel consuption.Gyro,s are more manoverable than fix wing i know, maybe a bit easery to learn to fly.Simpler to build maybe,so why are they so dear to buy.Any how i just want to put a point across

Yes they are expensive. I would suggest that the 2 seat factory built machines ($80K to $130K) are chasing a different market to the traditional single seaters. This new market obviously exists and the sales numbers reached by companies such as Autogyro and Magni have never been seen previously. On going sales growth suggests they are not priced outside the recreational market. It"s just a different market segment these days. I"m from the current generation but still have a strong interest in reputable single seaters. I"d love to see a Sportcopter Vortex or similar type single seater with a HKS or 80hp Rotax to offer four stroke technology but keep the price as low as possible. Why spend the money over fixed wing? - it"s simple for us, you just can"t beat the fun and capabilities the gyro gives us :-)

You are spot on Justin, gyros are not cheap. The European 2 seaters as Jeff says are up around that $100 thou, a new single seater, Sportcopter or a Rosco in a 912 rotax is going to set you back around $60 thou. You can occasionally pick up gyros for much less such as a basic single seat open frame which are not to be sneezed at but are typically a fun machine, not a tourer.I guess the cost factor is one of the reasons you dont see more about and I cant see any way they are going to get cheaper.

If you think about it there isnt a lot of difference between gyros, boats or motor vehicles, some people are prepared to pay 1-200k for a fancy car that wont get from A to B any quicker than a 10k commodore. I guess it all comes down to personal preference and what you can afford [ or what your wife will allow you to pay ] Personally i fly a new generation gyro but also love to see all the other types at fly-ins etc and are amazed by the engineering capabilities of some people. I like to fly cross country a fair bit and being new to aviation would feel more comfortable in a Rotax powered factory built machine than something that i built myself .Whatever your budget or preference i wish more people could enjoy the gyro experience.
