Just wondering whether anyone has ever gone through the process of aquiring an ASIC card as apparently our ASRA licenses arent recognised by CASA in regard to ASIC registration?

I had one once, then when I decided I didn"t need it anymore (too expensive) I thought I did the right thing and destroyed and dumped it. Then discovered you have to return the old one or you get in the poo. Managed to persuade bureaucrat that I wasn"t a terrorist.

Thanks for all the advice. Sent my application off yesterday, the cost is now $ 216.00. I know it is all a bit of a wank but I don"t want to land at Birdsville, Boulia or Burketown and get carted off by some over zealous public servant.Hope to see some of you at Ausfly and thanks again for your help.

I tried to get an ASIC card from CASA a couple of years ago but was completely pissed off by their incompetance and ignorance. After sending in the required paperwork, proof of identity and credit card authority it was returned "no operational requirement"I sent it back with an explination that my Australian registered gyro with an Australian certificated pilot wanted to fly into a registered airport, which he was quite entitled to do, but now needs a piece of plastic to prove I was no threat to the good people of bum f*^k back of beyond airport.Again sent back with a handwriten scrawl "no operational requirement"As I had some time to waste I decided to ring the department and see how my tax dollar was being spent. So after carefully explaing what a gyro was, who ASRA was, and that we crazy fools actually fly into big airports with the other "real" aircraft I decided I would be better of arguing with bubbles the chimp.Plan "B" I thought....So I sent an official email to one of the sport aviation inspectors with a polite "please explain".That was two years ago.The moral of the story?Just go through aviationaustralia for your ASIC. You will get excellent service and have the required bit of plastic in 7 days or so.(maybe a bit more ,memory fadeing.....)One wonders why one gets so despondent......
