I am sharing this true story as it has a safety issue being that too many tradesmen can in fact forget some important component. (Everyone thinking the others have done it) Names have been changed to protect the innocent, and it obviously happened in the past. --

A true story.

thanks max, my preflight I start from the ground up. first thing is the wheel retaining bolt and collars. I"ve always felt stupid doing that tiny first check but I won"t stop it. of course I took off and flew for an hour once only to find when I landed that I had left a pair of wire cutter pliers [for tie wire twisting ] sitting on my rotax box. they had slipped in deeper towards the bell housing . holy shyte. so that gets checked as well now. so talk about a smooth gyro and a pilot who can fly straight and level.

Yes Tony, it"s so easy to leave a spanner on an engine. I now use a hospital type tray on a tripod and completely refrain from placing tools on the engine. My imagination can see a small item striking the prop after falling from the engine and going through some-ones head! :"(
