  • Water/alcohol injection....

No, not gin and tonic.... I mean in 4 stroke engines

it must be true, the internet says so: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_i...%28engine%29In some cases ( high-power output systems), it increases power. In some cases ( you computerised car ), it typically leaves power the same, but increases fuel economy. It doesn"t seem to matter much if it"s water in vapor form, or in atomised-particle form, but there"s some evidence to suggest that the atomised-particle form allows for a cooler running engine, and can absorb more "specific heat" from the internals of the engine ( a good thing, makes pre-compression easier, and increases compression output).

On horsepower TV (7 Mate) they did some dyno tests on water/alcohol injection (or "misting") to see if it works as well as stated. They ran an engine on the dyno, then ran it again with the misters plumbed in. On a 450Hp motor, they got like an extra 15 Hp, a lot of which was being able to run a bit more timing advance without pinging. So not a lot of performance gained, but the engine temp was down, and like I said, I pulled down a 308 engine I had run it on, just letting water get sucked in thru a port on the Rochester carby with a top end lubricant glass tube drip so I could see how many drops were feeding in and adjust the flow..... however, I didn"t realise that the port I chose only let the droplets go down one half of the manifold

I remember a long time ago triumph Stag Had water injection. only have to notice how well your car runs after rain or high humidity. It"s funny how old technologies are forgotten. like the old villiers engine with two spark plugs on the head and the Detroit two stroke diesel bullet proof engines now the common rail engines. Look at the super chargers on the old WW2 V16 war birds there is some magnificent engineering of the past that seems to be forgotten. Have a look at that feller that made a simple catalytic fuel converter on youtube titled this feller was jailed for showing this. Why...too fuel efficient. Like Max says we are just the sheep in the masses of sheep. I made an 120 KV ignition for an Nitro methanol Harley race engine and it dynoed at about 760 to 800 HP it"s amazing what you can come up with and it ain"t rocket science. Just think outside that square. Quote "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." Ralf Waldo Emerson.Mike.

Madmuz, The water injection making your motor clean inside is due to the components of the water hydrogen and oxygen making the burn more The black in any engine is the unburnt fuel so I was informed by a person who knew more than me. I was informed that if one put lpg in the intake of a diesel it runs a lot cleaner due to the cleaner burn as well. As I have never tried it I am repeating what I was informed of. In Perth the MTT was running buses on lpg in the diesel motors by locking the rack at idle position and using the same gas injector that is used on petrol motors and they seemed to go ok. Think the euro diesels in trucks use adblue which I was told is water and urea mix and if you run out of the adblue the power is cut by 40% by the puter department on the management system just more things to go wrongCheers Des Garvin
