Oh and another thing, So you have say 30 years experience under your belt you have done all your inductions and you work hard at your job cause the young fellers let you. Then there is a medical i didn"t pass the bronchial challenge test by 1% and me blood pressure was a little high. So referred to local GP for a letter of management in order to get signed off.NO not that easy as i have to have 4 more tests in order to get signed off. So nothing to do with skills, experience or how hard you work its about medical fitness. How many of us old bastards are gunna fail medicals as Johnny Howard has got us all working till 67 yrs old now and you can only have so many stamp lickers and pen pushers in the work force. I have already resigned to the fact that I"ll probably just die on the job some day,the way super is set up, and if i get to retire with my colon well that will be a bonus. How many pollies do medicals and i would be happy with a 4 year portfolio and kick back with a $400k/pa package too. The problem is that policies aren"t realistic or relevant just let us old bastards work like we always have and if we sh!t our pants on the job so be it just leave us alone as you used to do.Mike.

Went back down to the hell hole on Friday (marina construction). Nearing the end of stage three. First two stages weren"t too bad as the contractors were using minimal rules and lots of common sense. These new clowns that have come here from the big smoke (Perth) wouldn"t be able to organise a r@#t in a brothel with a two fists fulls of $100 notes. Emergency call 3:30pm Thursday, need the 22T excavator. Anyways get there at 7.00am in the morning look at the job a whole hours worth of digging on idle we thought. Told him I had been I had been to this place more times place more times than he has had hot dinners but still had to do his induction. Two hours worth of induction, made me read the b@#$&*^t, answer some questions and just in case I can"t read he reads it to me and answers the questions for me. While he was reading the crap to me, we got onto PPE. I needed things like hard hat, gloves, steelcap boots, long sleeve, trousers ( i rocked up in shirt and shorts, boots unzipped ), sunscreen, hat, everyone has to have a handheld uhf at all times, blah blah. Seeing as I couldn"t be bothered with the politics and feeling a little smart I noticed that there was nowhere in the induction about high vis vest. So I promptly stopped him reading before continuing past the PPE section and asked if we have to wear high vis on site. He gave me a stupid look and said of course you do. I pointed out the error of his way in the induction. ;D
