I am looking for a flight simulator for gyros.I understand that Microsoft Flight Simulator has one, (or more)and have also come across references to X-Plane having gyro. However, the X-Plane references all sem to refer to the CarterCopter, and I am having trouble determining if there is a normal training gyro sim in there. I have downloaded X-Plane trial version. Next to dig out old joystick, and maybe unt the net for a gyro sim for it, as it seems that lots of peopl release aircraft etc. for it.Any comments from voices of experience,or alternate sims to look at?Don(untrained owner of a lightweight waste of garage space)

Hi SGo to the following address. You will find a RAF, a Helithruster, a Rotodyne, a cervia, and a Sparrowhawk. Along with around 2000 other types of aircraft.http://www.x-plane.org/Aircraft/X-Pl...x.shtmlX-Plane is the best gyro simulator, but you can also download a few gyros for MS flight sim. They tend to fly like planes but...L.Magner

Don,What Lloyd said was right about X-Plane. X-Plane does have more gyro models to choose from, and are more flight realistic. I have flown the couple of the gyro models which were a novelty for MS Flight Sim, FS98 I recall. What made me bloody laugh about it was, unless you had set "full flaps" for the gyro, I wouldn't take off and climb. And the rotor spun up to flight rpm when you started the motor. Talk about quick prerotation ability. The beauty about X-Plane Don, is that you can actually design your own personal gyro and fly it realistically. Just the thing to do for those wet weekends when you have the urge to go flying, but don't wanna get wet. []

Hi, I am involved with a company who builds big 300 hp gyros to be used in totally remote wilderness areas in Africa. We use x-plane as the official simulation and if I recall I am sure we have sim-models for gyro's like the Magni M16, RAF, Sycamore and then obviously for the Springkaan. If you are interested I can follow up whether they will allow you some "playing" with them??RegardsJohan von LudwigI am in Aus every few months ( around Perth, Fremantle, Kwinana ) and I would love to meet up with some Auzzie Gyro fanatics. Any that you know of in that area. I am actually in Kwinana this week.

Giday Johan, that sounds like an interesting machine.Could you give us some more details,[payload, range, cruise speed, jump start?? ect] theres plenty of remote areas here.[my nearest neibour is 50 km close and it's 350km to town.]

That would be great, Johan.I'd imagine they'd be eager to get the simulator out in the real world, as a form of advertising!Do tell us all about the beastie. Can it outrun a cheetah on the ground?Do you get any special training for avoiding giraffes? We need an Australian version with big "hind-leg" suspensionand a heavier tail.Don

Booked in for that week yet Don. They get easier to fly and eventually you'll say: "how easy is this". Ken

Hi,My name is Rene I'm from Quebec Canada. I've just try the x-plane listed above and it not work,I can't download. Anyone has some gyro flightsim to add to my flightsim 2002? Is it possible tosend it by e-mail as an executable zipped file? For now I'm ULM pilot, I took courses from an instructor here in Quebec with his RAF2000, but last month he has kill himself in his RAF in front of me. He experienced a PIO which he could not recover, the gyro made a 200 feets fallto the ground and exploded 300 feets far from me!rene.genest@qc.aira.com

Rene,I have made dozens of gyros for flight sim 2002-2004 but try as I might I cannot get them to behave like the real thing . i think X-plane is your best hopethough I havn't tried it yet...all gyros in Flight sim are basically small fixed wing aircraft , they have no provisions for a rotor system and no provisions for a pusher engine though with tinkering you can get it fairly close to what a gyro should actually do , like no roll landing snd such like they still will Stall like a fixtwing aircraftand that to me is a big bummer ! also if you put in the correct numbers to the craft it simply will not fly right ! and their sink rait is non existant you can glide for hours with the engine off , and we all know that ain't right ! ... so I sujest you do what ya gott'a do to get X-Plane to work 'cuz flight sim bites ! just my opinion folks !C ya !Bob......." Momm'a alwayse told me , Son the impossable is only a little bit Harder... and ya know I do believe She was RIGHT ! "
