  • RAF prerotator

Ok I think I got 1 of these coming in was just wondering if anyone else was thinking about this I might be able to get a bulk price.I have just selected the parts needed ie top bendix, inner and outter cable, bottom clutch assemble. So there is brackets needed and motor pulley, reason for this is we are using rotax for power plant. It looks like about 2000 Canadian dollars plus freight and gst

Bones,Have you tried pricing the Sparrowhawk prerotator? It is pretty much the same design as the RAF but MUCH better built and with more mechanical advantage on the clutch assembly lever. With the RAF & SH prespinners, you will need to allow for the clutch plate and shaft sticking out about 4" past the centre line of the drive belt and make sure it clears your prop.Or there is always the Wunderlich job which is heaps cheaper than both RAF & SH.See the email text below for Wunderlich bits;Hi Scott,I have been giving your idea some thought. I have sold several lower units to 912 / 914 operators. I have no idea how they attached the bearing housing assy to the gear box. I wish I would get some photos from them. I do not have a 912 / 914 at my disposal or I would manufacture a bracket mount. My lower units would require a drive drum behind the prop, but are compatible with the RAF flex shaft. The better bearing housing assy runs around $160.00 USD Drive drums around $75.00USD Tom Milton, OwnerCalumetair Inc.3441 Washington, Lansing, IL.

Hoges,I been trying to get Tom to do a unit for about 2 years for the 912 motors, i ended up saying the last time i talked to him i would send over a gear box off one so he could mould off it, but i cant get my hands on one

I was going to fit a Rotax 914 to my RAF and had designed a pulley and was ready to be machined so I could fit the RAF pre-rotator but I bought a Sparrowhawk in the meanwhile and that was the end of that. I still have the drawing if you want it.Hoges

Okay here"s something a little left field, i cant get the basically same type of deal off Wunderlutch(spelling) for about 1k US which might mean about 1500-2k AU, still need to build a bottom bracket and mount the top stuff.Food for thought, i might go this way myself yet.
