Gday all you fellow gyro nuts. My name is Mick I am from Darwin (MTK is my local strip). Pretty new to the gyro world, I"ve only got 50hrs to my name.I was trained by Max Tate (MadMax) . I"m trying to sort out my prerotator for short take off, so I can do a bit of fishing from my gyro. In 15 mins I can fly to a nice saltwater creek thats full of Barra, that takes me about an hour to drive too, short takeoff will increase my Fishing opportunitiesAt the moment I have the standard starter motor that fits on a Gerry Goodwin rotorhead, I can spin up to 100rpm static or about 150rpm if I keep it engaged on the start of my take off run, I"m thinking about buying a Wunderlich flexishaft Prerotator from calumetair (Tom Milton). Can anybody tell me what Rrpm can be achieved with a Wunderlich, I"m running an EA-81 with a Rotax E-Box, 26" Goodwin Blades.Attached if it works is a pix of my Gyro.

Birdy is the one to answer your question best. He has the RAF pre rotator and a similiar gyro to yours except with a 912 Rotax and I reckon he says about 40 paces for him BUT with a bit of in experience in your case of short takeoffs and not knowing what height you have to clear, I would work on approx 100 yards to be on the safe side. Rotor flapping is not a great thing and it can take a while to get the hang of how many revs it takes before you can use full noise.Anyway, welcome to the forum Mick!!
