  • Trades peoples licencing under threat

To all those people in the NSW building industry who fly gyros, this is a notice to you that your livelyhood is under threat, you will not have as much time in the future to fly gyros due to the introduction of CPD.The NSW state government has implemented legislation some time ago to force you to do training courses, if you don't, you will lose your licence and have to be 'reassessed' to get your licence back. No matter how skillful or experienced in your trade you are. You have to obtain 100 points in a three year period, or 33 a year with a minimum of 25 in one year. The points flowing from a five day course get about 25 - 30 in your credit at a cost of $750 to attend, 5 days and $10,000 worth of income per year lost in the business, then you still have to find time to do the Estimates, Invoicing, BAS, GST, TAX, OH&S, etc, etc. The small business trader will be severly penalised and will live under threat of having his licence cancelled.I am organising a petition to the NSW Parliament to have this legislation repealed.Anyone willing to circulate and sign a petition can email me for a pdf copy, my email address is "petition" . I wish to obtain thousands of signatures to make this happen so it will be repealed, I need your help, you need your help in this matter as well.Nick.

Dont worry Birdy, they get you somehow eventually, even your part of the world is getting smaller by the day. Yeah, sorry to hear about the govt stupidity Nick, we out here in the west of NSW have great problems with continuing govt legislation both fed and state. Got our Valuation notice the other day and its gone up nearly 100% so that means shire rates etc are due to jump...just what we really need after 12 years of drought and record low wool prices and now record fuel prices and no relief in sight! You never know how far you can go, till you get there !

I've been putting up with this for years Nick. Most of the time you go along to these 'educational' things and have to put up with some twit who doesn't know what they're talking about to get your 'Brownie points'.Good luck with your petition Nick, but I'm sure it will be carefully filed in the usual place.John EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.

Birdy,The joys of being and SCG are apparent, you've only got to contend with nature... which may be more predictable. How many of themn are buried near the #5 bore?Brian,Nobody really knows what they do with the money, except I suspect to shovel it overseas. What they're doing here is dimantling the TAFE system, that is at the root of this issue, so if you have any children aspiring to a trades career, its going to get a heap more difficult. I estimate at this point that hourly rates will go up by $10.00 per hour per licensee, no risk of it.Ozy,Your boss might be a little hard to convince, you need 33 on average per year. Does this legislation apply to you?Woody,I was going federal, not state. I would have been able to have some impact there by looking at state budgets in view of the facts that they will no longer have to pay for TAFE in the near future, so we'll chop that out of their grants...John,Agree completely, I can see a doctor or an engineer could do CPD, but not a trades person, our technologies are not changing at their fundamental level at all.One leading question I ask these diick heads is, "How are you going to CPD a brick layer?". The conversation stops almost immediately, there is no good answer to this one, not one that has any veracity.I have no idea which of these waankers comes up with these stupid ideas, but I know the intent is to dismantle the TAFE, and make getting to be and being a trades person a whole lot harder. This will really turn the consumer on, my bet is calling a plumber will cost $250. for the first hour within a couple of years, a little something for everyone to look forward to.Eventually we won't need a government, they will have moved themselves out of providing any services at all... so why have them now?Cheers,Nick.

Another reason why the territory is so damn GOOD[] ****er comes along with ****er ideas, he's told real quick to PO. It works a treat. I employ a number of trades guys, if they dont deliver quality, they're gone, and that is norm up here[8D]. Every dry season we get southern tradies chasing temp work up here, most of em are bloody useless. If you don't watch their every move , they will cut every corner possible, and leave you to pick up the pieces etc.If that is an indication of the ethics down south, then no wonder you are getting what is proposed.I simpathise with you good guys that are being affected by the proposal as it is sugested. The best way to overcome the poor standards is to not accept poor standards as an employer. And another thing...pay peanuts , you get monkeys. My guys are on top $$$$$. They never leave.RDC

you've only got to contend with nature... which may be more predictable.More predictable but less forgiv'n and you can argue all you like........ but she wont listen[!], coz she's the boss[B)]. [Have I heard that somewhere before???]How many of themn are buried near the #5 bore?Shhhh.[}]my bet is calling a plumber will cost $250. for the first hour within a couple of years, a little something for everyone to look forward to.You orta live ere Nik,you don't even consider calln anyone, plumber, electriction, welder, mechanic, or any type of 'specialist'.You would hear the cash register go 'ding' over the phone as soon as they learn your outa town.We just gota be independent. If I was paid for everything I'v fixed over the years I wouldn't need cows to make a live'n.[]Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were.Ingratitude stinks.......be generous carefully.
