Acquired a 99 model Pajero wagon with a petrol V6 3.5 engine back a few months ago. A bit of a squeaking noise developed & after a bit of detective work, I discovered the V6 has three idler pulleys plus 3 belts

Just a guess but it might be due to some base models not requiring air con drive belt or something like that.The Pajero was always an underrated 4wd , probably due to not bringing out a trayback and not breaking into the industrial/farming/mining markets.They have good power to weight for a middleweight and if not loaded up with 2 ton of tools or camping gear handle the rough stuff quite well too.Good on you for finding a nice one and hope it serves you well my 3.2 cents

Thanks Lefty, thats probably spot on cause one belt does air con, the other does the pump for power steering & the other the alternator.Power wise with the 3.5 V6 [ 24 valve] it goes like a cut cat and should be handy pulling a mid sized van.We wanted a vehicle here on the station that we could throw everyone in when we get visitors so that everyone can go for a drive & not get left home doing the cooking etc. I"m refust to let anyone ride in the back of the utes anymore unless I know them extremely well & they know how to look after everyone in the back & make sure there"s no skylarking etc but you are taking a risk now days with litigation so better to be sure than sorry.The air con works & it has cruise control & the 7th seats in the back so its nearly ideal for our job. Not a mark underneath & the suspension etc is excellent & only paid a couple of thou with 148,000 genuine on the clock. Looking for a light bull bar to fit the mandatory UHF aerial & some spot lights.
