  • Unsteady compass

Don't know about other pilots but in the past I've had a few compasses that used to 'dance around' a bit. I experimented with different fluids and came up with Auto. air cond. oil. ERG500 on the bottle OGX501 Ingram no. The oil is white and seems to be just the right viscosity.

Hey Max yeah good idea mate, Obviously the oil aint reacting with the paint on the dial. Some compasses can be completely useless, the ball starts spinning with the oscillations of the gyro clearly not designed with gyro in mind. I'm thinking the card type compass would perform better, would be good to hear some feedback before purchase here...Cheers

I'm using an old GA aircraft compass. The ones that sometimes leak. I've made new gaskets, ect. Seems good so far.
