Wilburt Thomas was having a shower on Feb. 19 1942 when the first bombs dropped on Darwin. He grabbed his helmet, boots and a towel and raced out to his gun site. When he got there he couldn"t get enough height so put the gun on a drum. He still couldn"t get enough height so he put the gun on his mates shoulders and they went out into the open and brought down the first plane. He was wearing the towel but it fell off along the way
