  • Thank you..

I was quite pleasantly surprised when I opened my mail a day ago; contained within was a certificate of appreciation for voluntary work for ASRA.I would like to thank everyone who recommended this, I appreciate the acknowledgement, now I just have to work out what I did to deserve it....?Cheers,Nick.

Telf,Sorry, must have been asleep for a bit there - busy at work. The package I use is called VariCAD - available at www.varicad.com which is a Czech company. To acquire it I rang Marek Dedecius and did the deal over the phone, you can buy it on line but I just refuse to put my eftpos card number on the net, you can download a trial version which works for 30 days, then you buy the licence key to keep going with it. It is not open source nor is it free software, it is pretty damn good though and gives AutoCAD a run for its money especially when it comes to 3D work. Price wise it is about equal to Autocad Lite - around $400 US. I know that Downer - EDI were using it to draw up the G4 trains for the NSW railways of late. The beauty of it is that it just goes and goes, no crashes on a Linux o/s, so you don´t lose any drawing time trying to use a Micro$uck$ o/s. The only problem I have with it is that I can´t get it to print to scale very well and that is something they need to make easier to use, especially when you are producing drawings that are to be a particular scale, ie, 1:100.Brian, Peter;Thank you for the encouragement..Cheers,Nick.
