Murray, as I understand it the direction of the 2 per rev movement that the slider is accomodating is oblique rather than fore and aft, do you know if anyone has actually orientated their slider to this direction? Is there any information available out there on how well it compares with the RAF "magic bush" arrangement?John EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.

John. Ernie Boyette has a slider arangement for the hub bar between the towers. That combination may equal the ability to slide in that oblique direction. I have not seen a pic yet but I believe it uses something like car valve springs on the outside of the towers. Hey Russell Cook, has your slider head from Ernie got the second slider that allows the hub bar to move between the towers?Aussie Paul. []www.firebirdgyros.comImage Insert: 7.98 KB

Hmmmm, now you've got me thinkng. I know the Poms have used Belleville washers as springs in suspensions, I wonder how they would go between the pillars and teeter block to get the same effect Ernie is after? Hmmmm.John EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.

This is an unsuccessfull attempt at a hub bar slider. The redish "stuff" was too hard and actually pulled the towers together!!!! The shake was terrible.I am working with different durometors of a neoprene type material for Firebird, and have now an idea for the hub bar slider myself. I hope I don't need it on Firebird, but if I doo then I will get serious about the hub bar slider.Aussie Paul. []Image Insert: 61.86

URK!,Yes Paul, you can see why that would happen, that's why the Belleville washers could be a goer.Actually a few years ago Chuck Beaty told me that rubber didn't work, so I had to try it, he was right.John EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.

Hi John, I have tried the Belleville washers for the fore and aft slider and they do not work either. Rubber won't work with the fore and aft slider but I reckon it will with the hub bar slider. I had Rosco machine an extra mm of each end of a U block. I removed the fiber washers and fitted approx .1" slices of the Raf 1.25" diameter "magic" bush each end of the U block for the fore and aft slider. It worked, but not perfectly. I believe that the Raf "magic" bush is 50 durometer. I bought some 40 durometer, 30 mm in diameter "magic" bush material the other day for my Firebird mast. That could be worth trying on the hub bar slider.Aussie Paul.[]www.firebirdgyros.com

The head in the photo is the one Rotor Flight Dynamics suplied for Russel Cook. The slider mechinism on the longnitudinal axis is designed for the RFD tandems where the mast is triangulated thus very stiff.Probably would be good on the single seat Dominators as well where the mast is very short and unable to flex to take up the vibes. Sorry no other photos available.

Paul,Those teeter towers are quite tall. I note the holes in the side, that would be to stiffen them up, did you try it with the stiffening plates in position?Nick.

Great info Chuck! I don't claim to have grasped it all yet.[8)]We would certainly appreciate the video you mention, it would probably be best to send it to Llewella, The Secretary, PO Box 666, Morisset 2264, NSW, Australia. We will place a copy in the library and undertake to make it available to our members. Our current problem with hub bar failures makes a better understanding in this area imperative. It's getting to be pretty obvious mast head starter motors play an important part in this problem, but the relative contributions made by resonance and impact is not yet clear.John EvansThink logically and do things well, think laterally and do things better.
