Birdy.Sorry to bother you.Your wife drives an F250, right ?Is it the turbo diesel model and if so, what do you think of it ?I dont mean as a bull catcher but simply as a goin across thepaddock goin ta town thingy.I am thinking of getting rid of the old Fairlane and replacing itwith a 4 door F250 turbo diesel and I dont know anyone else who has an F250 that I can ask.I dont need another Disco because I already have one.Tar.Robert DunnMackay. Havent got one unfortunately but can tell you that they arent imune from bending the front diff housing .Make sure you get your 250 with dual exhausts, the note is something else !!!!I only had the privalage of a 5 minute drive and was impressed ! Lots of get up and go from the big turbo V8 diesal and it handled surprisingly well. Apparently fuel consumption is pretty good too [compared to Nissan /Toyots $ WD's.Brian

Thanks Brian. What do you mean by bending the front diff housing ?Do you mean by banging it on a rock or are they a bit weak and bendunder load ? If its the latter, a couple of star pickets weldedhere and there would probably fix that.Extractors with 4" dual exhausts and the optional body lift kitis the way to go I think.I read that they are pretty good on fuel consumption, which helps of course. They are big donks alright, 7.3 litre turboed, and even with the4 door crew cab model you have enough room to roll out your swagin the back ! Something I cant do in the Disco.Cheers.Robert DunnMackay. Qld.Growing old is good while it lasts.

Duno Rob, i mita paid for it, but i'm banned from drive'n it.Not realy, i'v driven it a coupla times, good hway cruiser, but a worthless [big] pice o s#$% otherwise. Ours is only the 6 pot with a windmill onit, and it gose fast enough for the cook.Theres a few mods needed if your plan'n on driv'n on corragated rouds too. They're no different to anythn else made these days 2 or 4wd, they're all made ONLY for the black roads.BTW, it's no bother.[]Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were. You can always get the answer you want, if you ask enough experts.

Thanks Birdy.I would want it to handle the corragations but there is apparentlyquite a bit of after market stuff available to re arrange it foryour own needs. ARG and TJM etc. El Rancho reckon they have the shockies to fix em also. I have double action nitro filled Rancho'son the Disco and they are quite good. No lifting the foot on corragated corners and no sense of drama either. The best thing is that after a day on the cooragations everything is still intactand nuthin coming loose, including me tooth.I rckon the next thing will be a test drive in the Henry.Cheers.Robert DunnMackay. I'm not sure what bent Robert but I just heard that the front wheels had a funny look to them when viewed from the front. Most likely the result of a high speed impact with a creek that was washed out.All the 4 WD need aftermarket shocks and coils /springs /torsion bars to make them 'driveable' on the dirt roads carrying a load. I have tried TJM, OME, and a few others and have settled on a pretty good value for money product, cant think of what they are called but they are white [shocks] and are far better than OME and TJM.Will get the brand name tomorrow.Brian

Merry Christmas.Apparently the front springs bottom out.TJM have a replacement suspension kit that is the ants pants. You can also add the Polyair airbags and run them on 50 psi rearand 25 psi front. Website below.I would be going this way because the vehicle would be used forcarrying all of the camera equipment needed for documentary andfilm making, so its essential to have it as smooth as possible onthe rough !The F250 crewcab is large and comfortable without the need to towtrailers or put on roof racks etc.A bloke named Neil Cocks from Vic, has spent the last 12 months with one, travelling the deserts and stuff and was rapped. His is fully kitted with ARB diff lockers and so on.On the long stretches he was getting 14.0 lts per 100 K. Around town from 15.7 to 17.7L/100 km. cross country over dunes and deserts 17.6 ! Thats not bad for a vehicle weighing in around 4.2 tonnes loaded !I had an early Nissan patrol that I used in the bush as a camera vehicle but it was to small, same goes for the Landcruiser. My Landrover Dicovery, that is my pride and joy and the best 4beethat I have ever had,( I purchased my first 4bee in 62 ) is not big enough either. Damn. So, it looks like an F250 and a single seat Firebird camera platformis the way to go. For extended trips with my wife and chook co pilotalong for the ride I could tow an 18' offroad caravan and the Henrywould not know it was there !Cheers.PS: If you want an extensive and surprising report on the best allterrain tyres, get the January issue of Australian 4WD Monthlymagazine. I was shocked !www.polyair.com.auRobert DunnMackay. Qld.Growing old is good while it lasts.

The landcruisers and Nissans have the same problems in that the original suspension is just not up to serious Actually, any vehicle can be improved on by upgrading the suspension !!driving. Just wanted to make the point that the new Landy in original form isnt up to scratch.TJM have dropped the ball and there is a better manufacture out there. I think its pro comp . I have put new shocks on my Nissan and its miles better [had OME ]and I put a full suspension kit on my Navarra and its loads better. Just my opinion !The air bags are great value !!! Best tyres I have found to date are Coopers STC. All round near impossible to beat and I can tell you I have tried quite a few diferent varieties and I travel quick, heavily loaded and on stones, sand and bituem ...Brian

Nuh, dont like humvees. Nick, like I said before, they got QLD regoplates, Sheesh.I have Coopers on the Disco and they would be going on the Henryif I get him.Beaudesert Exhaust P/L have a new F250 7.3ltr 4" exhaust systemthat makes the fuel economy even better than what it is already !I am not that fussed about the new Disco either, and I thinkthat the Defender and the Troopy are the last of the true 4bees.My Disco is a 92 model V8 with 5 speed box and will remain my ownpersonal transport till I die ! The F250 would remain for work.Brian, I hadn't considered Pro Comp, thats something to look into.Thanks.Robert DunnMackay. Qld.Growing old is good while it lasts.
