Birdy, Dunno if its optional or not but if it isn't I wouldn't be toconcerned. Its a bit like the computerised engine management system on todays cars and you just get in and go same as you always have done it.But this stuff is a bit better because you can keep a record of whats happening internally and make alterations without changingchips etc. This might sound terribly technical and mentallyexhausting but hell Mate, if he can do it so can we !Then of course, you dont need to mess with it at all if you dont want to. Just sort out the engine installation and prop etc, andgo and do your thing as normal. The Fadec wont care it'll justkeep doing its thing and have your best interests at heart.Dont need feeding or anything.Cheers.Robert DunnMackay. Qld.Growing old is good while it lasts.

Rob, if theres a computer involved, im concerned.I know, everyone says theres nuthn unreliable bout todays computers. But its funny how i see at least one of these compute controled motorcars on the side of the plenty highway[ if you could call it a highway] every time i got to town.9 outa 10 times its the computer thats crook, nuthn wrong with the actual car.And i just happily putt on past in me old 84 tojo.I'm buggered if i'd place my trust in a comp, specialy when itd mean a 50km walk home.I'm prepared to sacrifice a little economy and engine life if it means i don't have to rely on a comp."Then of course, you dont need to mess with it at all if you dont want to. Just sort out the engine installation and prop etc, andgo and do your thing as normal."As it is, i havent touched the old 912 in 2000 hours, why complicate things coz i may get a little better efficiancy and engine life? Its pretty damn reliable and maintainance free now.Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were. You can always get the answer you want, if you ask enough experts.

I can understand your dislike of these automobile computers Birdy,I dont like them either and druther not have one.The ones attached to aircraft engines tho are a different kettle offish and not cheap junk or the FAA would not approve them. You dont often see 747's and the like stopped on the side of theroad and I think we will find the Rotax boxes are made by one of theleading manufacturers. Bombardier are not a cheap outfit. You probably could isolate it tho if you wanted to.By the way, what are you thinking of putting the V6 into ?Robert DunnMackay. Yeah, I was a bit sus about computers but I have had no problems with mine in 3700 hours in pretty harsh conditions. Of course, a computer can be affected by other things such as voltage spikes. A bit like those CDI things in motor bikes when they first came out, everyone was a bit sus about them and yes, they do die occasionally but to have no points and the plugs only needing changing once in a lifetime.I would not be surprised to see 912's with puters pretty soon !!Brian
