Gave the engine a real workout today.Got 6440rpm at full throttle. If there was a problem with the crank or a sheared magneto key, would the engine run smooth at 4500-6440, yet run clunky around 3500?Maybe I"m just being a bit pedantic but the engine feels a little rougher in the low to mid range and smooth at the working end of the range. ??? ??? ??? ???Gyro Van is now the spray painting booth. : : :Tail gets its metallic two pack epoxy paint tomorrow.Mitch.

Gave the engine a real workout today.Got 6440rpm at full throttle. If there was a problem with the crank or a sheared magneto key, Greg the motor more than likely wouldnt have started at all if there were a problem with either of the crank or magneto flywheel, did it start as easy, and the same as before, ie. same startup proceedure, if so rest your mind, if there is a problem it will show itself in the first couple of hours during your strip runs that i"m sure yuo be doing a few of.would the engine run smooth at 4500-6440, yet run clunky around 3500?Maybe I"m just being a bit pedantic but the engine feels a little rougher in the low to mid range and smooth at the working end of the range. ??? ??? ??? ???Mitch.Mitch a 2 stroke only starts to run smoothly about that type of rev range usually, when you say "cluunky", do you mean shaking, vibrating on the mounts? if so dont stress buddy, it will be fine, it is a 2 stroke after all, the old 582, only run smooth at about 5k and up, hope this helps some....looking good other than that.. ;D

Mitch check that your carby slides are opening and bottoming out on closing together and at the same time. Ensure spark plugs are gapped correctly and new. Air and fuel filters clean. Now set prefferd idol RPM eg 1700. Adjust idol mixtures so screws are same, and highest/ smoothest idol is acheived. If all this is done then the 1700 idol should be constant, but can be a little clunky. Engine should run super smooth from about 2500 up to 6800 (582)Good luck

Thanks Sam,Apparently, as Bones said, I got lucky and the engine is good. Bob ex US Forum advised on possible carburation problems.I guess I"m down to all the fiddle bits now and fine tuning.Have a great day. Mitch.
