Russell, I realize its a fine line but it tok a lot of time to work up to that point of knowing where you could give it to these blades, I wouldnt recommend a newbie pushing their blades hard, particularly the bigger diameter rotors.I had been extremely cautious with my 27 ft 6 in Revolution rotors but this day made the mistake of taking this guys word that the 'strip' he had picked out for me was okay.Sometimes you goto rely on the ground crew. It looked short, it looked rough and had a bit of a bend halway down it but I took this fellows word it would be okay.I landed anss my intial appraisal looked spot on but it was cool and thw wind was blowing the right way, by the time we had had steak for a late breakfast, the cool had gone and so had the wind. My wife asked me if I was going to refuel, said NOT likely !! in fact, could do with less fuel.Every run up this 'strip caused it to cut up and the rotors werent wanting to come up cause the strip was pretty rough plus the 'bend and a fair sort of 'hump'[which was halfway down] was making me slow down too much and the whole thing was causing me grief, got one run in pretty good , the rotors had come up okay, turned back down the strip trying to keep as much pace up as I could so that the rotors wouldnt slow down too much, got to the end and turned, I knew this was going to be the last run down this strip as it was now cutting up in a couple of spots real bad, rotors had come back in speed but felt alright so I gave the 2.2 a fair amount of power, wasnt sure how I was going to get around the hump as now my groundspeed was getting too fast to do much turning, glanced at rotor tacho just before the hump, it looked a tad slow but rotors still felt good. How I got around the hump I do not know and dont care but I gave the 2.2 the rest of what was left and she lifted off behind the power curve with stick still full back just before the 'strip'end. [Probably the only the second time I have ever used full throttle on the 2.2] Ground crew strip finder was sacked after that morning !! Brian.PS the steak was well worth the trouble You never know how far you can go, till you get there !
