I reckon you're right Birdy...as much as it pains me to say it but a 912 /914 is tons lighter than a 2.2 but whats a 914 worth nowdays ?? $30,000 ?? That money gets me a lot of 2.2's They are most certainly a lovely motor Robert and ulta reliable although they have been known to stop too !!BrianYou never know how far you can go, till you get there !

Oldbod, yes you could put a longer enclosure on that tandem but even as it is you dont get wet in the rain.(front seat that is) Going by performance so far you could put a 200 litre hopper in place of the back seat and have about 2 hours endurance from front tank.Birdy, I think if you could swing a bigger prop on the RAF a EJ22 would out perform a 912S ?.M Barker

G,day. Thanks Birdy.Murray, I hope I live long enough to see that type of Jittney flylegally !Brian, I certainly wouldn't knock the Subaru engines ( pity the Japsare still huntin whales, tho.)What I was thinking was, with a purpose built working Gyro, theRotax is reliable and all the bits are available off the shelf. No ringing around the yards looking for em, therefore a quickerturn around.Wouldn't it be good tho, if the operator needed to have a spareengine and prop ready to bolt straight in !Oh well, dream on.Cheers.Robert DunnMackay. Get into him Murray !!! Lots more torque. Could a 912 or 914 swing a 76 inch prop ??You never know how far you can go, till you get there !

30 mopre horses Murry???Fat chance, not ere anyway. If my EJ woz pump'n 120 nags, I'll eat me hat.BUT, the 912 TURBO, with the alt compensating wastgate, well, it don't matter wot the alt or DA is, its still produc'n the same at any alt.BTW, wots this crap bout dunny doors.???Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were.Ingratitude stinks.......be generous carefully.

Yes the turbo is a different story, BUT,if you put a FI EJ22(Standard HP 130) and a 912S (Standard HP 100)side by side IMHO they would be pretty close as far as power to weight.Especially if you take the time and get rid of all the unnecessary weight from the EJ22.M Barker

Mebe. How heavy is an EJ22??The performance difference I noticed most is when the DA is taken into account. With the soob, you wouldn't gain any noticable engine RPM when the DA was high coz the thinner air would affect the prop performance with an equal but opposite effect to the high AD on the engine.IOW, thinner air would mean less friction on the prop, but also less compression/power, so the peak rpm at high and low ADs woz bout the samw. With the 914 not know'n wot the alt is, I gain up to 400 rpm on TO.But all that don't matter coz its only a SCG's observations.Wot would settle all arguments is when an EJ laden RAF tryed to catch me, no chance.Ignorance is bliss............but only till you realise you were.Ingratitude stinks.......be generous carefully.

Mmmmm, maybe a new comp for the next Nats?, time to climb with different engined machines at the same weight?.I know HP is not what it seems,Waddles's Raf with 160 hp "one up" will not stay in a climb with Brian Maloneys 130 hp Tandem "two up".M Barker
