There have been some hints that i am stopping training ect, so this is the reason why. There is, that many people bitching about the noise from the airport aimed mainly at myself, WTF who would have thought there would be air noise from an airport, to the extent that there is now a house built about 300mt from the piano keys on the main runway, i have had threats to be shot out of the sky, people pulling me up in the street ripping me a new a**hole, even just the other night, we went out for tea, and copped it again. Then on top of all that i found out the CASA were here a few weeks ago cheeking up on me, didnt come over and get my side of it.Then i find out(contact on council) that if i keep up training the council is thinking very seriously of canceling my lease on my hangar, which would mean i would have to pull it down and leave the airport. So where does this leave me?????I got no where else to go, i dont want to go anywhere anyway, so the easiest and simplst thing is to stop my training, and as such this indirectly means i really got nowhere to train any new Xenon owners so this is going to stop also i feel.So if i been a little tight of late(Sam) this could be some of the reason, but this is my fight, and it pi**es me but it looks like i cant even start to think about winning this one.So its time to just get the hell out of the area for awhile and hope thing calm down, and i will be able to keep my 40k hangar at airport where i put it up 3 years ago...............

Bones,Sorry to hear your problem unfortunately its pretty common even for fixed wing schools at rural strips where the council were stupid enough to let people build close to strip (within 2km!). The only solution I now of is to move the circuit operations to a strip that doesnt have neighbors, either way its going to cost you

I had a few tussles with council and CASA but the council supported me and helped me conduct my gyroplane training school over the years that I began in 1990. CASA and a couple of ASRA executives gave me more headaches than the local council!!!!It is a shame that councillors seem to hear the squeaky wheel of people who believe that the airport should close because "THEY" built or bought a house near the airport!!!!!!!!!!In a housing development at the end of one of Ballarat"s runways, in which our daughter and son in law have built a house, the owners have to sign a caveat that they will not complain about aircraft. The Ballarat airport users group were able to have the devolopers leave a green zone in line with the runway centerline in case of emergency. There should be a lot more of that.Aussie Paul.

There have been some hints that i am stopping training ect, so this is the reason why. There is, that many people bitching about the noise from the airport aimed mainly at myself,Yep, when I was the "Duty Officer" at RAAF Williamtown, that has been there since just after WW1, we had people call up every time we flew nights complaining about the noise. The real estate agents used to show the new developments on a Sunday only. cheeky buggers. The callers all got the same line "We have been here since the 1920"s, didn"t you do your due diligence before purchasing in the area"Not much help Bones but whingers are everywhere, bet they would complain if you were stuffing diamonds up their a$$, bast$%ds.I like Ballarat"s solution.

Aye Bones, Sorry to hear this. I don"t have a solution to the Wallies who built their house beside the already located air field but I always find that there is a hallow vessel involved and look for the money trail and it will lead you straight there. Just remembered Mate ya got a very forth right back up

Sorry to here your predicament bones, here in albany wa the local council bout 4 years ago shut down motorbikes riding anywhere and everywhere without a licence plate, bout 2 years after that they thought it was a good idea to shut the motorcross track ( fairly big club that occasionaly holds state rounds). Motor bike club has been fighting to get a motorplex for motorcross and enduro, against all odds, they are real close to getting there wish now.Hopefully you get a resolve one day to matewolfy

Mark,Perhaps you should write a letter to council, saying that you have received complaints regarding your gyro training (RE: noise) Which brings an economic benefit to the town and region, Ask what council’s position is and if they have a noise standard that must be complied with.At least instead of cracking the Sh1ts and walking away (and letting the knobs win) you are trying to take a proactive approach to improve your situation. Perhaps get some of your past students to provide letters of support and how the location is ideal etc….Good luck.Trent

"There is, that many people bitching about the noise from the airport aimed mainly at myself,"Yeah, well thats why they call you Trombones...Now mate, never be a victim. You gotta be proactive. Been thinking about your crap all day.I have seen some great pics you have put up in the past doing search and rescue in floods. You are always the first with your hand up to help at such times. Well, its time the local newspaper ran a story with pics on the adventures of the Boneman. Pegs smarter than you, so I am sure she could put together a couple of stories and have a chat with the reporter. I remember a pic parked on a deserted road, and more of drowned beasts against fences. Eye catching. And you spending time looking for lost flyers. So the paper runs those for a couple of weeks, and they will, they are always looking for local story. Then the reporter does a follow up about the great man himself. And show some pics putting up the shed in 3 days. You love flying, and the outback is dependent on wings, and you see training more flyers as a sort of community service. You are conscious that flying is noisy , and you do all you can to keep quiet, but all good things come at a price etc."People just do not realise how much more effective an air search can be, and in fact, if any of my neighbours would like to come for a flight, I would be happy to show them" Maybe you could wax on about tourist potential. The thing is, get in first and fast with some local interest stories. Then you would have to be a real ******* to complain about such a good citizen.Graham

Concidering i was involved in a search for a downed glider a couple of yerars ago, once the search controllers found out i was in a gyro i was "TOLD" to land immediatly and take no further part in the search. So im guessing that isnt going to do much good at all

Back in 1990 while I was President of ASRA we achieved the ANO 95.12 .1 that allowed for legal dual place training. I had the capabilities to train in a 2 place Air Command gyroplane BUT we were not allowed to operate within 5nm of a licensed aerodrome. My home aerodrome of Ballarat was licensed and I had learnt to fly GA there so I wanted to operate from Ballarat as it had hangerage. The local council would give me permission if CASA would give me permission, also CASA would give me permission if the local council would give me permission!!!!

bones you could check with asra but i think that casa are out and about. my mate flys out of clifton airfield and he said they were there also. although there are a lot of planes there too. it seems they are randomly doing inspections. so maybe it was random at the same time as other people complaining about you, maybe. most people that whinge is usually because of noise in the morning, if you were training early[ and all strips are busy in the morning cause thats the nicest time] if you can change that so the whingers can sleep in. who knows?????? i"ve had to move because of noise on a private strip[ not my noise , just got painted with the same brush, i did get invited back when the dust settled] i had already settled else where so i only go back and visit. maybe some noise checks , stats are good . ink on paper , or maybe a few small changes to the exhaust system, i"m sure xenon could have the same problem in europe too and ask do they or are they working on anything to reduce noise. rob p is paranoid about noise . he has been working on quieter exhaust for a while . yes it would be a bit of weight, but thats on a soob too. i suppose it is going to be harder on your rotax [warranty] it wouldnt hurt to let the council
