  • Another calling for asra board nominees.

The deadline for nominations has now passed, regretably we members have become aware of goings on within the current board. [ well documented ]The "Regan" report was damning of 2 board members in particular. We have a situation........now, where last years board have tendered their desires to again lead asra,[ their nominations have been received, and accepted ]The release of the "Regan" report has now highlighted to us members of behaviours / actions, that were unknown until after the closing date for nominations. I believe there are members out there, that now knowing the facts of events, would like to now nominate for a board role. The problem is.........the shut off date has passed.I am asking...........please again call for nominations, or else we have gone through this public humiliation, and all for nothing. The same 2 irresponsible people will again be on our board...........rediculous.

Russel, while you and I have not always seen eye to eye in the past, I do believe you are right, however check out the nomination forms issued with the Gyro News 2007.The Nomination form you refer to actually closed

In light of the current situation, nominations for the board should be re opened immediately, there are some members even today that are only now becoming aware of whats happened.I"m sure that those running ASRA will be only too keen to be seen to be open, transparent

Re: Please ASRA, call for new nominationsG"Day Fellas,I certainly support a call for new nominations.IMHO New Nominations should be called for and I understand if we, make it clear to the current Board, that"s what we want, then they will have to make it so.We the members should ask for a new round of nominations to give the new folk a chance to get on the list.Any talk of going to hide out amongst the ranks of the RAA or what ever the AUF want to call themselves, is akin to putting ones head in the sand. ASRA is our organisation and there are plenty of volunteers with and without experience. Nothing has changed and no-one is irreplaceable.Hey Rotor! Is their anyway we can do a bulk email to all those who have registered on your site with contact emails? This would help to ensure the word is getting out.As far as operations and safety/training etc, these are continually being updated and rewritten. We had a freaky year with our lost Mates. Lets get some new nominations happening, then vote in a new board and get on with what we do best, share knowledge in an effort to reduce incidents and accident rates. Continue working to ensure TA"s and Instructors are on the same page and that curriculum"s are adhered to and correctlyI hope you all think about how important it is to give everybody who wanted to nominate, time to do so. To rush the old board back into service, might be the biggest mistake we make for another 12 months. There are a lot of blokes stepping up now, so email a board member now and ask for new nominations to be held.I believe we will get a better more broad based Board if we are choosing 7 from 14.My great thanks goes out to those 3 or 4 left on the Board who are now formulating processes to expedite a resolution to the mass resignations. Please act.ThanksMitch

Mitch,Well said. Contrary to some rumors I withdrew my nomination shortly after my resignation and I strongly support the notion of recalling for nominations so that the membership have a bigger field to vote from. I also support posts by Fred and believe that people should consider forming teams of like minded people with clear published objectives.Regarding the notion of operating under RAAus, I have been a long time member of that organisation and have found it to be well lead and managed but should we amalgamate I believe that the gyro"s may get swollowed up and treated as the poor cousin. By all means consider outsourcing our admin to them but I would prefer gyro"s to have our own voice. Guys get behind your organisation- ASRA and support your volunteers to help you.ASRA is bigger then any individual and because of this we should be serious about limiting the terms of office to no more than two regardless of how good you may think an individual is - we all go stale eventualy.I believe that ALL of the past Board members served ASRA to the best of their abilities but in the best interests of ASRA you should consider electing a totally fresh Board. I remain available to provide advice and guidance to new Board Members should they seek it and I will provide it on the proviso that they consider all available options not just my view before they make a decision. Regarding the back seat hecklers - give some thought to the effect that your public mud slinging has on ASRA as a whole and also the volunteers family - in my case I can handle any rubbish you want to throw but when my wife and kids start to be effected(They visit the web and my son is a keen pilot) and start telling me to chuck it in, its difficult to stay focused and commited. My 10c worth,Adrian

Well Adrian, I fully support all you have said in the above post. For what its worth, I think your decision to withdraw your nomination, speaks volumes of your integrity. Its a pity that a couple of other board members didnt do the same as they have made a mockery of their "resignation" and treated the ASRA members like fools. I"m sure the remaining board members are not impressed by the phony shenanigans

I too believe this should be reopened, as from what has happened. It will not look good if it does not happen, it WILL look like some one is trying to cover some thing up.My 2 cents worth

G"day Mitch,Good to see you back. I was just thinking of starting a thread, something like "Wears Mitch?" (to which the obvious answer would have been "Yeah. Didn"t it" or something similar.) Hows the gregory peck travellin? Hope progress is good. I think even old Russ would be pleased to see you back. No-ones threatened to kill him for a while

Exactly Fred. Word is C7 and Brachial Plexus fine. 3-5 months and I should get most of it back. Lots of work with physio etc.My reference to hiding out in the RAA was to do with something I had read previously. I think out sourcing an Office Manager or having the RAA administer our paperwork are options to look at. I meant not to belittle anyones suggestions for a stronger future in gyroplanes. I simply believe we have a lot of years of experienced personnel in ASRA who want to be involved at board/office bearer/advisory level. For sure let"s look at all the options like Adrian said.....he is willing to advise and counsel if called upon but emphasis should be made on considering all available options.Further I agree with the concept of having like minded groups of people supporting these decisions made by volunteer members, so that they do not feel, they and they alone are responsible for the final action, should it all go pear shaped. It is far too much pressure on the individual.Mitch.

G"Day Adrian,Thank you for commenting as an outgoing board member.Withdrawing your nomination and supporting the recalling of nominations from a larger field is admirable of you.Fred"s posts often have a rationale to them I wished I"d given rise to.Appreciate your thoughts, regarding how outsourcing to RAA would be better than employing an Office Manager. Either way it would likely mean an increase in individual mebers fees. I, like you , prefer ASRA to stand alone and have its own voice certainly.I agree on limiting terms. I further believe limiting terms would be a reasonable expectation of most members given in this day and age, this is more the "norm". Maybe I"m completeley wrong. Perhaps another poll? "Stale" is definitely no good at all.Again after a year off the board, perhaps that individual can nominate again. You"re not on your own when you comment about all board members serving to the best of their abilities and the bigger the "pool" of nominees we get to choose from, the more likely we get a fresher board.Adrian your background in aviation and love of gyros brings a hugh amount of advice and guidance and I as a member will likely always seek your input. It would be my hope that the new board would feel like wise.If my words through the forums have hurt your wife and children, then I am truly sorry. That was never my intent. Stay committed we need people to help advise the new board and ease the transition. Thanks for your previous and ongoing service to the ASRA.Cheers,Mitch

Adrian.......if my comments have caused you or your family any uncomfortness what so ever, i sincerely....genuinely opologise. It was never my intention. From the very beginning, when "details" were becoming apparent to me, my attack was aimed at 2 board members only. Regretably private mails to and fro amounted to further muddying of the waters. There was unashamed deceit and more going on, all to keep it "private"The "outing" of events, was the only way i could see [ and others ] of increasing member awareness, and to let members have input. Regretably innocent parties were caught up in the flak, and i am sure, now that members have seen the outcome [ Regan report ] hopefully the innocent parties can accept the operandi.I applaud your decision to withdraw your nomination, hopefully others will see sense to. Enjoy your planned break, looking forward to you again getting onboard within asra, your input has not gone unnoticed.Lastly.............this RAA thing.............we stay as we are [ stand alone ] but maybe "affiliate" to them.could have insurance benefits, will have "clout" benefits.Near on 30yrs attached to gyros............that"s 30yrs of the "FWer"s" lookin down their noses at us gyros.[ must admit tho.....that"s 30yrs of me lookin down me nose at them to..........tossers
